I went fishing at Deer Creek yesterday with an old fishing buddy who just doesn’t have the physical health to do much fishing by himself. I had hoped that we might have a good fishing experience since this was our first time on open water this year. We had a great disappointment. I should have taken a suggestion given to me about going to Jordanelle instead. The fishing might have been better there.
We arrived DC about 8 am. The weather report indicated that it would be windy in the afternoon, but I was not expecting wind in the morning. It wasn’t a bad wind, but it was a forerunner to a windy morning.
I tried a nightcrawler near the bottom, but found no takers. My friend tried fishing with power bait. He had no success. I threw a #5 Perch Countdown and finally hooked into a nice rainbow near the shore. I thought I had found the key to success, but that was the only fish I could entice with my Rapala. We moved around to see if we could catch any more fish, but we had no success. Finally the wind became so bad that we left around 11:30 am.
Mama Nature doesn’t play nice sometimes.
Sorry you guys didn’t do better. But, it is STILL April (1 more day). Lots of good fishing ahead.
At least you got to stretch your string on a bowski. I know you would have rather have a walleye…of any size…but DEAL WITH IT. Plenty left for other trips.
Lloyd, sorry to read that you and Tug didn’t get into them. Hopefully, next trip will make up for this one.
Good Report!!! Now I dont have to write mine down since yours is exactly like mine, except my Rapala was of Walleye “flavor”. Only caught one, then nothing!!! Got there a little before you guys and left around 10:50!!!
