Willard and a Huge Wiper!!!!!!!

This wiper was caught on the third cast this morning.
It is one of two for the day.
I took my dad out to see if I could get him a wiper on his fly rod and we where working an area over when this fish hit.I knew it was big really big when the drag started screaming! I told my dad to get his pole in a grab the net.I got it up to the boat and instantly started freaking out by the size and it took another run for the bottom,this time my dad was ready and we got it to the net and the lure fell out of it’s mouth!
This fish went in the cooler and I know I should have got right off the water,when we measured it on the boat it was 27 1/2 and I used a guys digital scale and it was 9.0 lbs wieghed it three times to make sure.[:/]
Length 27 1\4 inches
Weight 8lbs 12 oz.
Girth 17 1\2
No state record but the biggest wiper I have ever caught what a thrill! enjoy I did[;)]

Thats a nice nice fish… Ive personlly never caught one much over 5 pounds so congrats…

so according to the scale that fish would have cost almost 31 bucks. good thing you caught it for free, sell it for 20 bucks for gas money!

Dude … I’ve only got two things to say:

  1. Wow … VERY nice Willard wiper. That’s giving the state record a run for his money.

  2. You owe it to yourself to get a better camera may friend.

Almost 9 pounds, congradulations.

But Utah still has a long way to go on wiper size.

Its 22 pounds for the state of Kansas.
26 pounds and 15 ounces for Colorado.

I’m sure Willard in the future will “kick out” a much larger wiper than 10 pounds.[fishin]

Great fish and most likely is the Willard Bay record. I have heard that the current state record didn’t actually come from Willard Bay, but a smaller lake in our area. Don’t know if it’s true or not but I have heard that from a couple sources. Congrats again that is a toad.:sunglasses:

Nice fish, wow… I would have called Cabela’s and kept it alive till they got there to pick it up.. I think they would have given you a replica mount for your wall… wow great fish…
