I moved out of Utah 2 years ago. [:(] I am back in for the weekend and my father has also come to visit me. We are going with a friend fishing, but are unsure of where to go. It has been years since my father and I went fishing together, so I want to have a good trip. My friend has a small boat.
I am in Provo. I was thinking of Deer Creek or Strawberry. I would love to go to Starvation, but it is too far way.
Deer creek would be good. Be out there early so as to avoid the power squadron though. With the holiday weekend every where will be pretty busy. If you would like some catfish action head to Utah Lake, Yuba for pike, Huntington north for multiple species. How small of a boat does your friend have?
Bottom bouncing around the island at DC has been producing a few eyes. Also You may find some smallies too. You may find some trout and perch as well jigging.
Yuba has produced a few walleye this year but haven’t seen any recent reports.
If you don’t mind the drive you can launch at the north marina at Willard. Troll for walleye, catfish, and wipers using rattle trap cranks. If the crank has a bead in it and makes noise you will be successful there. Bait will work as well. Try freeway Bay Area to start.
Depending upon the draft of his boat UL may be too shallow for the boat. Lincoln beach has had about 1.5 feet of water in the launch channel. The other harbors are worse.
There is always Jordanelle as well. If you go there head to the rock cliff arm and look for structure and drop off points.
With the forecast of high winds. Assuming, you can boat safely at all, I would suggest the Wallsburg arm would be your best bet for the least amount of wind.
Though I have not done as well as I do at the north end the wind that is foretasted should be taken seriously. If you have a fish finder try to find fish stacked up in the back of wallsburg for jigging and troll pop gear with a wedding ring tipped with worm for the rainbows out towards the mouth and half way into the bay.
