What are your biggest bass caught out of various UT waters?

Hey Guys…
I just kind of started thinking about it, and I want to try and get an idea of what some of the biggest bass (largemouth, smallmouth) are that you guys have caught out of various waters across Utah. And any details that you are willing to share about your catches would be appreciated. If you aren’t willing to give up exact locations on a certain body of water, that is understandable, but if you could at least give a description of where the fish was caught, that’d be great. Just trying to collect a little data here…I’ll start off sharing some info about my biggest out of various lakes…

-Utah Lake: Largemouth; 8lbs 2oz; Provo Boat Harbor; caught sometime in July as I recall; this fish was spawned out as well and super skinny, if I had caught it when it was full of eggs in the spring it very easily could’ve gone 10lbs; caught on a lipless crankbait.

-Deer Creek: Largemouth; 18.5" (probably about 4lbs); caught fishing in a rocky area with plenty of good stumps around out of about 6-8ft of water; sometime in June or July; caught on a lipless crankbait.

-Deer Creek: Smallmouth; 18" (I’m terrible at guessing the weight of a smallie); caught in 2-3ft of water on top of a ledge that immediately dropped to 9-10ft; June; caught on a firetiger colored Rebel Pop-R.

-Jordanelle: Largemouth; 17.5" (3-3.5lbs); shallow weedy bay with plenty of trees, in about 3ft of water; August; Lucky Craft Sammy topwater bait.

-Jordanelle: Smallmouth; 18"; 13ft of water on a point; August; drop-shotting a 4" berkley finesse power worm.

-Gunlock: Largemouth; 6lbs 9oz; 10ft of water on a point; June; 5/8oz jig w/ a 5" watermelon colored twintail grub trailer.

-Quail: Largemouth; 7lbs 11oz; 6ft of water where the creek dumps into the lake; April; 1/4oz blk/red jig w/ a black twintail hula grub trailer.

-Sand Hollow: Largemouth; 4lbs 12oz; 25ft of water off the dam; 6" smoke colored worm on a 1/8 oz jighead.

Sounds like fun, I’ll have to try bass fishing sometime…

ROTFLMAO

Hey fsh4fun05… you were at Quail the same day I caught that fish weren’t ya? Didn’t you also catch a similar fish at Sand Hollow on that trip?

6.5 # Largemouth from Lake Powell on a 1/4 oz white feather jig.

Any inch measurements to the ones with the lbs only data? Just curious. Specifically the 8 lb one.

Mine was about a 4lb Largemouth taken in about 12 feet of water throwing a Berkley Frenzy in firetiger.

I did not measure mine, only weighed, snapped and released asap - majja will verify

Small mouth 23.5" Jordanelle about 12:00 noon drop shot robo worm in 3’ of water…

L M 8 LB 5 OZ tournament weight Gunlock…

S M 24 1/4" Jordanelle weight on certified scales 8 lb 4 oz sink-o type bait caught in 4’ of water…

8+ lbs smallie is truly world class! I can only wish! Probably pulled like a 16 lbs LMB!

No it pulled like an 8.4 pounder…:sunglasses:

My Quail 8 lb. lmb (actually 1 oz. less [:(]) was 22 3/4" long. An egg heavy beauty. Check out the trophy board and you will see pics of some the above mentioned fish.

i caught 3, 2-4lb smallies out of starvation reservoir. I dont have any pics though.[:/]

I’ve got just a few questions for some of your reguarding your catches, but don’t feel obligated to answer all or any questions. And if you don’t want to post it on the board, a PM would be nice. It’s every angler’s right to keep some info to himself if he so desires…

nkunz: What time of the year did you catch your 6lber at Lake Powell? A month would be great…

Majja: What body of water and what time of year?

bassrods: What time of year with all of those catches? Also, 8lb 4oz on a certified scale? If that’s true, that throws a whole new twist into the Utah Bass Records discussion currently going on. Care to explain??? (not an attack, just wondering how you weighed it on a certified scale, and if so, why isn’t it the record?)

There was also a question about some length data on fish with weights only…my 8lber from Utah Lake, was 25 3/4". Every bass I’ve caught that was full of eggs and 25"+ was over 10lbs…so I really wish I could’ve caught that one just a couple months earlier. heh. The only other fish I can remember the length on in my list is the 6lb 9oz from Gunlock…22 1/4". My 7-11 from Quail, I caught when I was about 14, so I just don’t remember the length on it…

Lets see, The 23.5 was on July 4 its the C&R record…

The 24 1/4" 8 lb 4 oz was on certified scales I had them certified threw the IGFA any member can do that it costs you for the scale and there time and I still have them…Oh yes the date July and a picture was posted on freeform and I was a lone at the time so it can’t count for nathan but for me and my record…

For a state record you must go by the rules or it don’t count and that is how it should be…

Its like FOOT BALL OR BASE BALL you play by the rules or you shouldn’t win…

Say bassrods, do you happen to have a picture of that fish of yours laying next to a tape measure?

It was in a net, I was trying to show the size of the bass with the net I had lost my tape…CBR took a picture of the net with a tape of the net size and put the two pictures side by side…

And the only picture I had was with my cel phone, not much to show but I was not about to put a fish in the live well just to get proof…

A lot of people catch big fish and have no way to prove it…

Oh yes the bass in my adair (I think its called) the one to the left…Its 24 1/2" long and on the scales it was weighed on it was 11.9 lb from Mexico no tape in the picture do you need one …I do have one for the tax. man to use…

Utah Lake last week at the hot springs. My first cast with a flourescent orange blue fox, landed a fat 6+ lbs large mouth. A very fat, and healthy one. It was so fat it looked square.
