9-22 Sun came out in west valley around 2, a chance to go fish and not get wet.
went to the new harbor on west side utah lake, fished off the rocks north side into the lake.
1 1/2 inch white curltail red head, 3rd cast 1st whittie, fished from 4:30 to 6:30 and ended with 20
in the cooler and 8 or 10 missed. most where close to the rocks when they hit.
Froze 5 small ones for future cat bait. come on warmer weather.

You always provide such excellent information that I thought I would help. Although the marina we are speaking about is adjacent to the Pelican Bay subdivision, the correct name (currently) is the Saratoga Springs Marina Park. The City Council is currently in the Master Planning phase of it’s park system and that name could change in the future.
Here is more good news for everybody. The City has doubled the size of the parking lot and it is scheduled for paving on weds. the 25th of May. The parking lot should be striped on friday the 27th, weather permitting, and ready for the public to start off the Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks for the info Shane. Those are nice facilities and I have tried to help more people learn of them as an additional recreational resource.
Good to hear about the expansion. I have witnessed the congestion and chaos on busy days under the previous limited parking conditions.
Will you be providing any kind of website or online information? I am sure that would be helpful to all concerned and might create more useage as well.

I too love Utah Lake and grew up fishing there. I have seen the video with old photos of UL in it’s prime 10-12 lb. cutthroat days and clear water. If only it could have remained that way!
I will not profess to be a biologist but if I could see just one change in UL it would be the introduction of Wipers. I envision 20-30 lb. fish but like I said I am not a biologist and I only see the up-side, I am sure there are many down-sides that would prohibit such an introduction.

Just about anybody who has caught wipers would agree that they are a fantastic fish. But there really ARE some biology concerns that would likely forever keep them out of Utah Lake. First and foremost, the feds would never okay adding another top predator…as long as one June sucker remains alive. White bass are bad enough on the Junies. Who knows what additional carnage the wipers would inflict upon them.
**Even if wipers were put into Utah Lake it is not likely they would do even as well as they do in Willard. The lake is shallower than they typically prefer and there is no year-round food base for them…like shad, shiners or chubs. Utah Lake is a cannibalistic closed system. All of the predators survive by eating each other. No stable forage base…just the fry of other species…before they grow too large to eat. **
If it wasn’t for the danged suckers maybe we could get some REAL fish to help control the carp. I’m thinking flathead catfish…maybe some gator gars. Heck, throw in some giant snakeheads too. They might even slow down the water ski crowd. But that wouldn’t help the marina much.

All joking aside, flatheads and alligator gar would be excellent “carp repellent.” You know I would be after some flatheads and might even break down and get a bow for some gar. Heck a big ol’ gator gar hooked up while on your tube? You’d be mistaken for a water skier![;)][;)][;)]
That is an excellent facility. There is one problem though. The ramp is so steep it’s really tough to retrieve a boat of any size without four wheel drive. It can be done though if you don’t mind leaving $50.00 worth of rubber on the ramp.
I agree, the ramp is a little steep. I even have a little trouble with my 18’ finding it’s ‘sweet spot’ on the trailer.
Last week I saw some guys launching a 34’ SeaRay on a triple axle trailer. I wasn’t there when they took out but I hope it went well.
