It was during the end of July last year that I made my first-ever attempt to catch white bass out of Utah Lake. I had a lot of success on that first outing and during the subsequent trips I took throughout the month of August and even into September.
Saturday evening my 10-year-old son and I waded out to our favored spot and casted various sizes and colors of small jigs and grubs into water that ranged from three to five feet deep. Perhaps it was due to us fishing during the early evening hours between 6:30 and 8 p.m., perhaps we didn’t fish deep enough, but neither of us received so much as a nibble. I imagine we might have experienced a bite or two had we stayed a little later, but my son got the shivers.
Anyway, I realize it is not yet the end of July, but I figured we would at least get a bite or two. We were casting in and around large stands of bullrushes and reeds. Everything we did appeared to mimick our exact behavior from last year when we experienced so much success.
So to my questions: Are any of you getting any whities to bite? If so, are they out deeper than five feet of water? Have they moved away from the reeds?
Maybe my luck would change if I went early in the morning one of these next few days or chose to stay later into the evening as the sun went down? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
