My father in law and I and my dad are going to Utah lake tomorrow morning. Neither of us have fished there but are looking to try some different water.. Both of us have looked into this site and read alot and looked at tubedudes maps.. We will be in a boat hoping to be there around 7-730. If anyone has any recent reports on where a current hot area is or if something seems to be working better than others I would appreciate any info.. We fish for fish not picky cat fish, white bass we just like to catch.. We only catch and release so we won’t steal all your fish.. Thank you in advance
I’ll be launching from Lincoln beach about 9 tomorrow. The action should be hot for whiteys and cats.
Would we be better off to wait til it warms up a little too or is earlier as good as later??
The white bass will be going with the sun up but the kittiies take some time to warm up. I only take 15 whiteys then about noon get started on the kitties, this time of year.
Try inlet flows and rocky shoreline areas. The white bass are not in full swing, but are starting to provide some decent action in their spawning areas. If it were me I would probably stick to your plan of getting there early, but the action will most likely get better as the water warms throughout the day. The reason I would go early though, some of the best areas are not big enough to hold a ton of fishermen, so I would get there before most people (especially on a weekend). Throw jigs or spinners for best results in my opinion.
Good Luck and hope this helps.
Here’s a pic of last weekend. We caught 30 whities in about an hour and a half. 15 cats, in about 4 hours, nothing over 4 pounds. It never got above 75 degrees last weekend. Tomorrow should be better.
What ramp are you planning on launching at? We will be heading to Lindon tomorrow. Unfortuanately will be stuck on the shore this time.
If you are at Lindon I can always at least point at where I have had good luck.
What kind of colors do you all find work best in plastics and hardware?? Also what sizes??
1/32-1/16 ounce. Just about any color works. Small spinner baits are great. Inline spinners. Favorites are pink jig heads white bodies, chartreuse jig head and body. For the cats you can get away with crawlers, but cut a white bass fillet in 2 pieces to keep the dinks off.
I just can’t get the hang of Utah Lake. Launched the pontoon at Saratoga Springs boat launch and trolled a worm on one rod and an assortment of plastics and cranks on the other. Only saw a few blips on the fish finder and no bites. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but I’ve yet to catch anything there after three tries.
If you are having no luck at Utah lake trolling and casting, you can always try to fish like a kid, and that is to just use a plain ole worm and bobber rig near the rocks or in the reeds. I find the key to doing this is to keep moving from spot to spot until you find fish. It sounds simple and it is but you may be very pleased with your results. Good luck fishin
Thanks JohnR. At this point I’ll take a carp. ![]()
Thanks to everyone for the Utah Lake Tips. I Am the father in law that drove the boat. Sure didn’t catch many fish ![]()
lilfish managed to haul in over 30 Whities and half a dozen cats.
His father managed over a dozen
and I scored a measly eight.
Had a great time though. Caught almost everything on small jigs usually with a red head and usually with a Chartruse body although it didn’t matter what lilfish had on.
Fun place to fish. We will head down again when we get the big motor fixed.
I to keep getting skunked at utah lake. Having better luck on the jordan.
Same here Joe. Yesterday I was able to bring in several mudcats and a couple of white bass on the Jordan. I will eventually catch something, anything, on the lake itself.
