Fished UL a few times this week over in the saratoga area. The first day I caught 50+ white bass and some bullheads. Second day caught about 30 white bass and a bunch of big carp. Then today only caught five white bass and some more carp. I think the wind had something to do with the slowness today. Most were caught on red and pearl tubes. Over all had a pretty good week at UL. Hopefully the crappie will start over there soon. Sorry no pics camera broke ![]()
Welcome to BFT and thanks for posting. Are you fishing from the shore?
Thanks. Ya I caught them from shore. Im going back tomorrow does anyone have any tips for a carp bait in case the whities aren’t biting? All the ones I caught wee on accident with the jigs ha ha but they sure fight on lite tackle[:)]
Carp bait? Arrows…[sly]
I’ve had ok success on carp with a worm on a hook with no weight and no bobber. If they are feeding on the surface, just sneak up and keep flipping it in front of them. They have very well developed senses and will find the bait, but thet are very line shy and can feel hooks like nothing else.
Salty, dough balls, too.
Welcome, Glad to have another UL’er on the site.

Sweet that is my favorite place to hit at Utah Lake. As for Carp, I only snagged mine over the spring. Great fighter for sure! Hope to hear more reports from you, thanks for posting the detaled report! Almost every species in that lake can be caught at that location.
Hey there, I will be in the UL area around Thanksgiving and was planning on doin a spot of fishing. My question is, are there any good spots closer to Spanish Fork. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
I have fished the pelican (saratogia) marina, American Fork Harbor, and the Provo Harbor. The only place I pull out fish is the saratogia marina. Plus it is free at saratogia if you don’t launch a boat with a trailer!
I know several others on this site could point you to better place down south. PM Tube Dude, Utah Lake is practically painted on his veins on the back of his hands. He is more than willing to help anglers.
Some people like Lincoln Beach out of Spanish Fork. Follow 4th North West, it becomes 6400 South. When the road takes a 90 degree right there will be an almost immediate left turn (West again). Take that until you see the marina.
This time of year all the harbors are about equal in my experience there kind of hit or miss. So prob close to SF I would say provo or lindon harbors. There’s also mud lake but I haven’t ever fished it this time of year so not sure how it is.

Not too many spots around the lake are worth fishing in the open lake these days. But it is about time for the fish to start coming inside the harbors more. Lindon and Provo Boat Harbors can both be productive…around the docks or next to shore where there are rocks.
If you will be staying in the Spanish Fork area you might want to try inside the short boat channel at Lincoln Beach. There is often some good fishing between the courtesy dock and the boat ramp, at the far west end of the channel. Take light tackle, some bobbers and some meal worms or crawlers. Set the jig about 4 to 5 feet under the bobber, cast out and move it slowly back to shore. There will probably be some locals down there to watch for fish locations and most productive techiques. You should get a mix of crappies, bluegills and white bass, with the potential of walleye, largemouth or even a silly catfish or two.
Here’s some info to help you find your way there.
My experience has been once the temps drop, UL slows way down! I’ve tried to go the last two weeks but it’s been like the ocean out there with huge white caps. I managed to hit the mouth of the SF river, and didn’t catch anything…but I really wasn’t expecting to, I just had to get a little fix in. I’m probably done with the lake for the year (i’m not a big fan of ice fishing). My advice would be to hit the provo river, trout fishing this time of year is good.
And there you have it. The great Oz has spoken!
He didn’t plug it - I will.
IF you want to know ANYTHING about Utah Lake - you should get this book
Good luck out there. Guess we’re in a tuff time of transition (unless you culling big bad river browns!)
