Wife and I are going to have no kids tomorrow and wanting to try some fishing at Utah lake. Preferably one of the boat harbors (Lindon), (American fork), (Provo). Anyone know what bait is working good? We haven’t been fishing together in years so any help for us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hit AF harbor last Sunday. Caught crappie and bluegill inside the marina casting parallel with the reeds and slowly reeling and bouncing a bobber with a white gizzy bug tipped with crawler about 18" below. Caught cats outside the marina (casting west into the main lake) using white bass meat. White bass were hard to catch; my brother caught 3 on rooster tail casting west. Good luck…
It depends what you want to fish for. If you don’t care what you catch, you can just toss a worm with a foot of leader out on the bottom with a slip egg sinker. You will catch just about anything. A carp, sucker, mudcat, channel cat, even a white bass.
Probably too late to help you on this trip but I alsmost always throw jigs for white bass however spinners will work. I prefer small 1/16th or 1/8th ounce jigs ( I know a guy that makes these great jigs) I prefer red heads but will switch. I often use 2" grubs in green, chartreuse, black or some combination. Bait fishing you will find the old stand by night crawlers work but a piece of white bass meat is hard to beat for catfish. The lake side of the dikes at almost any harbor should have a few fish. Good luck and let us know how you did.
Put a chunk of SLIGHTLY reesty white bass (4" x 6"?) on a 1/0 -3/0 circle hook under a big bobber (the kind a blind person can almost see) about 1’ - 2’ down below the bobber. Throw this set up out RIGHT AT YOUR FEET…litterally… about no more than 2’ out! If you are in those chunk rock boulders…that’s where the BIG cats hide! Leave it sit on either side of the boulder for no more than 2-3 minute (usually about 30 seconds) and then move to the next one. Soon…and I mean very soon…the bobber suddenly takes off and disappears…slowly (or quickly) reel up the slack and get ready…no hook set just get your feet set…and if you don’t get at least 5 in the first hour, then I need to get down there again and relearn their NEW ways…
Since they rebuilt all of those harbors and got rid of the slabs of concrete, I would hope that the cats still nest in the chunk boulders! I use to kill 'em (not literally) doing it around the concrete. And let the big ones go…they’re usually somewhat nasty tasting the bigger they get, and they make great fun when ya catch the same fish 3-4 times in the SAME night/day! IMO!!
Well we got back and had a horrible time we had some bites but caught nothing. i didnt get a chance to read these posts before we left so we used works and power bait. we went to AF harbor. But looking around i didnt really see anyone catching any fish. Plus it doesnt help when i am pretty clueless when it comes to most fishing rigs and lures. Can ice fish though just suck in the summer for some reason…
Thank you for the posts trying to help though…
