I’ve fished out of LB several times in the past week. Highlights:
On Friday we had a sort of mini-flotilla; BLK and TD hooked up then Mooseman and I arrived later in my boat. Richard and Violet were there, too. Justin and I caught 13 fish between us which was about half what Richard and Vi reported. It was a fun day out with my friend; we got enough for a fish fry for three families and Justin caught a couple of bumpers.
Before sunrise Saturday I bumped into Lynn at the ramp, but didn’t hurt him too much (that’s a joke, son). He was using a silver spinner and was pulling in a small white bass on nearly every cast. I was able to get a few and one 9"er to stoke my bait supply. We’ve been trying to get over to The Knolls for some time but we never seemed to mesh. He suggested we go over there and I didn’t have to be asked twice. When we got there we immediately started catching fish. Well, I was a little frustrated because they were biting consistently but I couldn’t get them to stick. I finally realized that the flig I was using had gotten very dull. After I switched it out I started nailing them. We fished until after noon. We pretty much stayed in the area between the two knolls; I got in as close as 100 yards from shore but usually was further out where I wouldn’t be bumping rocks. I caught 20 and Lynn said he quit counting when he got that many. He caught a 30"er, too. None of mine got very close to that so no bumps for me. When he headed home I took a vector and went over to the orchards, the area around the sheds. From there I strolled down toward Mulberry, reaching there around 5:00 when I decided to head for home. At that point I had hit a personal best of 34 channel cats in a day. No really big fish but still a day to remember. It was my 43rd trip of the year and I crossed my goal of 400 cats.
Earlier in the week I caught an “almost”–29.5". There were a few 28s and 28.5s sprinkled throughout the week. On Saturday it was about 62° at the outset and was getting nearly up to the 70 mark by the time I went past the wading warriors casting for walleye. Of note, there was starting to be enough algae to make a thin scum on the water. Not real bothersome, but it was there.
Well, I gotta quit goofing around and go scout for deer. Good exercise to get in shape for the elk hunt. I’m not sure how much more fishing I’ll get in what with hunting hogging the front burner.
Hey Craig, nice report and lots of fish caught. A couple questions; you say “Justin caught a couple of bumpers.” OK pardon my lack of knowledge, but who is Justin (what BFT name) and is he going to post those “bumpers” ? I assume he is a Cat contestant ?
Sorry, my bad. Justin is Mooseman75. I don’t know if he will post them or not; I hope he does. He hasn’t been able to fish much this year between covid, homeschooling and boat trouble. I hope we can get out again and get him some really big fish.
I posted them, I just forgot I got into school work with the kids and all… But they are done. Thanks Craig for a great day I hope we could do it again but my back ( not because of fishing) is bad right now I’m bed ridden for past 2 days. But I enjoyed the day out and finally seeing some fish caught.
I saw the post. It had a picture with a guy with about 15-20 really nice perch out of Willard Bay last week. He said he wasn’t sure how long the bite would last but they tore it up pretty good.
Well mystery solved I received a PM from OP. Explained the post was accidentally posted on public forum and he moved to the premium side of the forum where only those members can see post. Pretty damn sad.
I bump into BFT folks (admins) and they complain about no one posting and how FaceBook is ruining BFT. These are the same individuals who will ask how deep were ya fishing what color lures, how fast etc etc.
So there ya go. Can’t share any info for others for fear of burning bridges. Again pretty damn sad and shame, shame, shame if folks feel brow beat they can’t post a detailed report and only post it in this premium BFT section. Shameful!! So the public side of BFT is for just us commoners.
Finally the limit on Willard Perch will be15 in 2025 just so ya know
I was the original poster of the report that was moved, I mistakenly posted it on the public forum and when I realized what I had done I moved it to the premium board. Each of us as anglers like to share with others to varying degrees, I am typically very willing to report and share where, how and when I catch fish. The caveat to that is, when other anglers turn me on to a particular bite and ask me to not report it to a public forum I respect there wishes. The public forums have a lot of people who only want information with out also contributing to the forum which makes some people not as willing to share. The premium board has a pretty low bar to join and maintain membership in, hopefully jjanie the moderator of the premium board will post the rules for the premium board in a response in this string. I can tell you that most of the people posting on the premium board are also on the public forum as well and what gets talked about there eventually makes it out to the world on BFT and other social media sites and even television. I have made a lot of great friends through this board and have taken many people that I met on this site and other social media groups in my boat and shared my knowledge with them freely. My intent was not to keep a hot bite to myself. If anyone takes the time to send me a personal message I will respond and answer questions about any fishery I have knowledge of without holding any details back. Responses and traffic are what keep this site going and I want to encourage people to be as active as possible, I fear that one day I will go to log on and get a broken link message and it will be gone. I have a pretty substantial group of anglers who I interact with outside of this forum, but without it I would have likely not met them. I want anglers of every level to have the opportunity to make the same kind of connections I have. I hope that something good can come out of my mistake, it has at least started a conversation and possibly encourage more people to join the premium board that requires folks to minimally contribute. I am sorry for the confusion my actions caused, and please reach out with your questions, I love talking about fishing and helping others find success.
Thank you for the explanation in the public setting. We too have learned when folks provide info and ask to keep it lowkey and not public we do. Best way is to not provide info don’t post anything as once it’s posted no matter in a private site it’s not longer private that’s just my thoughts.

You have definitely found different, “…Facebook Utah fishing pages…” than I have ever found. “friendlier” isn’t close to the word that I would use to describe any of those Facebook forums.
Well, late to the fight, but one comment I just couldn’t take, “Facebook friendlier “are you nuts? Anytime I’m on there if someone asks if there is any fishable ice, the reply’s range from get your a$$ out and find out yourself to the Great Salt Lake… If that’s friendly I doubt you have any real friends. I’ll stick with BFT and I originally didn’t like the Premium board, but like mentioned the main board is open to all whether your BFT or not so mention a good bite on a small water and watch thirty folks show up. Premium isn’t hard to get on and you do have to participate every few months but I consider that cheap for the tips on there. Don’t fight it, pay the price and enjoy it. We’d love to have you there.
