Other Fishing Boards

:sunglasses:Hey folks, it is no big secret that there are other fishing forums in Utah. But, I keep getting panicky PM’s wondering if BFT is going to go out of business? Probably a good idea to address the issue here.

First of all, there is room for everybody. Each forum develops its own “style” and format. Some people are more comfortable with some than others. We have freedom of choice. And, it is not like a religion…you cannot belong to only one. Drop in on as many as you like, and participate at whatever level you want to.

**The “bad news”? Some of our long time contributers are spending more time on other boards…where they can use profanity and talk trash without being “moderated”. To them, we are now “THE EVIL EMPIRE”. That’s cool. **

The “good news”? We are busier now than we have ever been and we are getting more new members than at any time in our several years of existence. What’s more, many of the new members are coming aboard for the same reasons others are leaving…our boards are moderated and we do not tolerate profanity or personal attacks.

**I drop in on the other boards too, but just to look. I don’t care to be a part of what I see and read. What bothers me most is that those who have left our “terrible repressive board” try to justify it by slamming the moderators and some of the other members who contribute much to our informational forum. Sad to see that some folks have to pull themselves up by pulling other people down. **

We don’t have to do that. We will continue to maintain high standards of posting and personal conduct for those who want to read and post in peace, without concern for being attacked by those who contribute nothing and come on the board only to “stir the pot”.

Thanks to our loyal members who contribute reports and help provide answers to those who post questions. That is what this forum is and shall remain.

But, don’t worry about “straying” to other boards whenever you want to. Once in awhile they will provide reports or information that you might not find on BFT. Not often, but it does happen. But, from what I have observed, you have to read through a lot of BFT bashing between useable information.

There. That is my only shot at the “other guys”.

I have been watchig one of the other boards and the quality and quantity of good reports ad info cannot be matches to BFT’s site.

This site has made me a much better, more educated fisherman over the last year ad a big thanks to all the participants and moderators.

I have to totally agree with Tubedude. Users go where they feel most comfortable and free of harrasment. I couldn’t have said it better myself, Pat.

Each board has a lot to offer. freeformfishing.com is another option. It is a lot looser forum. The language is looser, the attitude is looser but make no mistake. There are a lot of quality fishermen there that when asked, have a wealth of knowledge. There is also a very strong brotherhood among it’s membership.

Freeformfishing.com is not meant for everyone as this site does not suite a lot of people. As Pat said, there is no reason to not take advantage of what both sites have to offer. Come on over and check it out. You may find out it’s not what you originally expected.

I bounce around 3 different boards and all have flavors I like and flavors I dont like. It is nice to have some diversity. BFT is strong as ever, and the other boards are growing significantly. I guess different boards can co-exist with each other?:sunglasses:

While we are on the subject of different forums I would also like to address an issue. Some of the BFT members have been frustrated that their posts have been edited by the Utah moderators by deleting links and references to other forums by name; however, other links and references are ignored. The moderators have been instructed that it is BFT policy that links to forums that are not owned by Predatorial Advertising Associates, L.L.C. (the owner of BFT) and affiliated companies are prohibited. For example, because Freeformfishing.com now shares the same ownership as BFT references to it are no longer edited out.

:sunglasses:Keep up the good work! I have been impressed with this site and have no intention of leaving. As for the other boards, the use of foul language does not bother me. What does bother me is this, When you say something online, there is nothing stopping young readers from reading it. That is unacceptable! People who post like that on a public board obviously have no self respect, let alone respecting others! Fishing is about having fun, relaxing and spending quality time with friends & family. Something that because of my business I have not been able to do as much of as I used to. I am trying to rectify that this year. Hope to see you hard deck soon.
ps. I would love to join you at yuba for the perchfest, but will be stuck at our store. (6 days a week really sucks) Catch and eat a bunch for me.

i agree with you on this one. many of the old time bft users have moved on to freeformfishing.com alot of us hard core target fishermen have gone to it for are reports and info sharing. we get to share our opinions with out wether ther are in agreement or not. we dont fight over there at all. its moore of a good fishing buddies place to exchange. im still responding to post here on a minnimal level however. and co modderating the pike musky walleye nation board but that it. i will share any info in pm,s for the most part if anyone wants assistance. ken

Silly Pat, you know you are just a lurker now:face_with_tongue:

Like has been said, lots of good guys here, lots of good guys at other places. Go where you like, contribute what you like, and catch lots of fish!

I like both boards. (This one as well as FreeformFishing) And plan on frequenting both as part of my daily routine…

Randy

What I LOVE about BFT is the complete lack of Ads!!! [unsure]

Man, you came to us just in time then! We had a spell that was almost impossible to do anything here.

The one thing that other boards lack is use of pictures. I can’t stand to hear a great report and then not see any pictures. BFT is doing good with pictures.

I totally agree with Pat. This Forum “BFT” is quality and I appreciate the moderators and what they stand for. There’s no place for profanity on any forum in my book.

I love hearing about everyone’s reports (even if I can’t make it to many of the areas), and I especially like it that people post their pics.

Keep up the good work everyone.

I consider my self new to this board and others.. I don’t know why they would call this site " THE EVIL EMPIRE ".. I Like to hear about fishing reports NOT bashing other boards or fellow fishermen.. I started with BFT and will stay.. Keep up the good work fellow BFT’ers..:sunglasses:

When i moved here from Florida 10 years ago i had no idea how to fish for freshwater fish and what kinds there were here in utah. I went to several sites and none but BFT was helpful. There wasnt many people on BFT but the ones that were here were very helpful. I basically had to reeducate myself on how to fish imagine that.:face_with_tongue: The best thing that i love about BFT is that is a **Family site!! **My kids read the reports and look at the pictures and they dont need to see any of the crap that the other sites have.[;)]

Amen to that, Ocean!

There’s enough of that crap out there on the internet, it doesn’t need to pollute this great Forum IMO.

I took a little trip over to FFF. I can honestly say that I wasn’t impressed. I had intentions on becoming more active and reading through the posts to see what was different/better/worse than BFT. After reading the first post that was related to the different names that users use on different forums and seeing how they (not all of them) bashed BFT and some of the members I had a gutfull. I typed my two cents in lingo that they boast about and won’t be returning. Too bad, I wonder how many people get turned off by reading what I read, I know for a fact that there are members on that board that could share alot of knowledge. It made me appreciate the wonderful job the BFT mods are doing by having control and keeping control of the BFT forums.
Now I’m going to have to get a BFT/Evil Empire sticker for the truck.:sunglasses:

Be sure to get me a few of those EE/BFT stickers too!:face_with_tongue:

Tubedude is right it is o.k. to be a slutty forum ho and no one will think anything of it. I frequent about 5 fishing sites and used to 7 or 8 just ran out of time and stamina. The adds are annoying but the content is good just don’t miss a day or you will be burried in posts! I will keep throwing my my 2 cents at bolth sites and the other “unmentionables” that I contribute to. Even though they list BFT in thier menu of other sites I will not metion thier name.

So I wanted to put in my two cents on this subject back when the big rules smack down post was still open a few months ago.

I first want to express mad props to Tubedude for not only moderating, but for the wealth of information he has made available to all of us over the years… Thank you…

I don’t post all that much, but I’ve been reading the board for a long time (4+yrs) now and I think if the Mod’s and owner’s of BFT are concerned about this then they have to take a real look at policies that may be driving up the membership to these other websites.

I know I‘m not alone when I say… **I kind of like the controversial, rude, mud slinging, name calling posts !!! **

And I’m not ashamed to admit it. The recent post about perch had just started getting nasty and fun when it got locked. Heck, we even had us a good old 7 day suspension. Not quite like the good old days of multiple lifetime bannings and threatening PM’s from Mod’s, but it was fun while it lasted. It just warmed my tiny, cold, black little heart to see Fuzzy step up and post one that he must have known was headed for the padlock…

If you simply read transcripts of conversations between me and my 4 or 5 closest buddies when we were fishing, golfing, playing poker or Xbox, you would think it was nothing but “personal attacks” and that we were on the edge of blows all of the time.
Nothing could further from the truth. My friends and I all think it’s funny to break each others “brass”. I’ve laughed out loud numerous times at banter that went back and fourth between BFT members, others thought the same exchanges were malicious.
In fact one time (under a previous pen name), Another member and I got after each other and before we got more than a couple of shots in, the post was locked.
We even sent PM’s to each other afterward saying how funny the others insult was, and how we wished the post didn’t get locked because we were looking forward to firing back!!!

My point is that what a small minority consider offensive personal attacks, others, including those participating, might find funny.

I also understand the point that some people are offended, and also the a fair number of minors might be reading this so choice four letter words, that are a constant part of my fishing life, probably don’t have a place on the general discussion board.

So here is my solution…

I think we can all agree that the Utah board is the busiest and best board on the site. And I agree with Tubedude that freedom of choice is what makes not only BFT but the whole internet great.

We already have like 147 sub boards on the Utah discussion form (tubing, fly fishing, tips & tackle, hunting, cooking, knitting, etc…)
My vote is for a “Hot Topics” sub board that would be an -enter at your own risk- **Unmoderated **zone…

It could be set up with an “you must be 18 to enter this site” which would allow blockage by standard parent filter programs.
And it would give those of us who want to a forum to have no holds barred, gloves off, kick dirt in your face and insult your mother, swearing, heated “Discussions”…

Anything that gets too hot for the General could get moved over there.

What do you think Tubedude and fellow BFT’rs ???

Possible ??? Good idea ??? Stupid idea ???

I’m interested to know what you guys think…

(Hope this doesn’t lead to a lockdown of this post…[;)])
