Thinking Jordanelle Friday (1st trip)

I have been playing mostly at UT & Powell (twice this year). Thinking about going to Jordanelle which would be my first time there. I have a boat. Anything I need to know besides reading on-line, finding where to launch and giving it a shot. Will be fishing for bass.

Maybe reconsider your plans? I haven’t heard of one good report from there this year. If you do go throw out a drop shot rig with a wacky rigged senko, then just bounce that down the shore lines.

How about Deer Creek?

DC hasn’t been bad. The bass are plentiful (although small), panfish are frisky, and apparently the trout are even fairly active. I haven’t heard of much walleye activity though.

Its DC then, any places in particular I should fish? I don’t know the lake, but I’m taking a friend who skis there once in a while, so he would know the layout better than me.

How big is your boat? I hear that the island has been eating props so depending on your boat I would use the main parks ramp. If you get there early you’ll get in no problem. But the place turns into a zoo once the power squadron starts showing up. You can find bass all over the lake. But the best bite for myself has been at first light. Good luck.

Yeah I ruined my prop at the island marina. I now exclusively use the first ramp when you’ve come up through Provo canyon. Early morning (6 am) is by far the best bite. Between 10-12 the skiiers are everywhere, you feel like you’re on the ocean because of the chop. Just pound the shorelines, you’ll catch the bass. Troll for trout and walleye.

THX - we plan on hitting the water at 6AM, I have an 18 foot ranger so I think I will be good. I’ll post an update after the outing tomorrow.

If your going to deer creek just toss senko wacky rig with sinker, tail grub on a 1/16 jig maybe tip with some worm as well on it and toss it to ward the rocky banks and you can manage a few decent 11 or 12 in . If you catch a kitty kill it kill it there illegally introduced and they will take worms off the bottom and there getting fat and thats not good for the lake if they have tons of eggs inside of them at all.

Ya i would just hit dc instead of the nell.

Just got back to South Jordan, hit the water around 6:30 this morning. Fished around an island (if the water was deeper) and got 2 small small mouth bass. We then went to other sides and caught a few. We were on the water about 3 hrs and caught around 10, threw them all back (I don’t keep em).

I enjoyed the trip and I think we did OK for a first time at DC.

I have a new trolling motor, so some of the time was spent trying to figure out the gps stuff on it - MK Terrova - great product.

Thanks for all the advice!

I say I’m ignorant not stupid, but there were a bunch of boats trolling, I assume for trout? What kind of rig would they be using? Again, I toss everything back, but love fishing/landing most anything (favor the bass).

Trolling can be done for anything but most likely the trollers are after Trout.

Rapallas and flies on light lines worked very well last Saturday.

Troll fishing can be as fickle as anything else though. Some days the Gold Jake’s is the ticket. Some days its pop gear. Some days the down riggers get the hits.

But last week it was rapallas.

What style of fishing do you prefer? Trolling, casting along the banks, or floating some bait?

Knowing how you like to fish will help with some ideas of where to go.

Ya no problem.

Casting along the bank is the way I usually go.
