Met up with Bassrods and his friend Brent for and early morning outing at Jordanelle. Well we got a little later start than we planned but was on the water by 6:30 am.
Nice day NO wind and no skiers to start the day off. Launched at Hailstone and headed north from there. Bassrod connects first. Judging from the bend in his rod, he’s got a nice one. But we will never know for sure as it broke off. Had to be at least 6 pounds!![;)] They’re always bigger when they get away ya know. The he hooks up again and this time no breal off. A 13/14 in smallie. At this point we were all drop shoting using different colors of minnows or swim baits.
Brent connects next. he also has a 13/14 incher on. While this is going on the ospry is feeding on something in the next cove over. It takes to the air and then dives to the water. Hitting it hard enough that we all say whoa!!! did you see that!!
Very cool to watch mother nature at work …
Well I’m getting schooled on how not to catch bass. Banished to the back of the boat were the newbies learn a new trade. Finally I hook up it’s a nice fish and the fight is on. Just as i get it to the side of the boat she breaks off. 4# line and smallies are fun but ya gonna give a few back before ya can land them. Fun fun fun I tell ya!
Well now we move on to a new location fish awhile catch a few more, fight the nelle snags, catch a few more and move to another new area. This time it’s an area I’m familuar with but haven’t fished in a long while.
Again Bassrods connects first. This time it’s a dink around 11 1/2 in. He takes a ribbig from Brent. Did I mention that Brent knocked BR first fish of the day off with the net!! Told him thats payback for the other day. It was too funny watching these two. You can tell their old friends and just enjoying being out on the water together. Catching fish just made it even better. I don’t know how many fish were caught today. I truly have no idea, but someone had a fish on almost constantly. The fish ranged in size from 11 to over 20 in and upwards of 4 pounds. It was a GOOD day on the water and even a better one fishing.
Thanks Brent Bassrods I learned a few new tricks caught plenty of fish and had a great time. Now I know you all would like to see some pics of the day. Well I don’t wish to dissapoint anyone so I wil attach a few below. No special order but were edited for content. This is a family site and so our these pics. Hope ya enjoy.
great report im glad you guys had a good day on the lake. thats a nice one yaou got there toad . to bad the biggen got away but dont they allways, im going to give the bass fishing a try at the gorge this weekend, not as many big ones on that scale of ave size but ill be happy with a four pounder. tight lines
Thanks bigfish6. It didn’t start out all that hot for me. But once I got the swing of it (pun intended) it picked right up. Nothing like having a couple of OLD pros show ya what yer doing wrong. OLD is the key word here. 3 Old geezers in a boat having a good time.
Thanks for a great report. That brightened up an interminably long work day. (not done yet either [pirate]) Great pictures too. Congrats on that 20+ toad. I never tire of seeing pics (or catching) lake X toads. If the work dieties allow, I’ll get to float it again Thursday after work. Can’t wait!
Oh yes I forgot Roads broke my boat the shift cable needed to be replaced so I’m land locked till its fixed and its Roads falt for getting in the boat…[crazy][sly]
So your there slavin away for the big bucks. Then you deserve a little online time. BTW I would make a great personal assitant. Could show ya all the good holes.
Sounds like you guys had a great trip. I sure learned a lot about the fine art of drop shotting from Bassrods when I had the pleasure of hitting Jordanelle with him last summer. I got an early small lead on Clifford, but before the day was over he had schooled me big time.
Great report and great pics. I hope I am able to do my own “Trip with Bassrods rite of passage dropshotting clinic” sometime soon (Bassrods, I have a camera and I’ll bring it!)
