Take a disabled Veteran fishing

You can put my name down as a committee member Cliff, I live in Syracuse and work at Hill AFB. [fishin]

You make # 3 …

Can any of the ones who post on this post that wants on the committee PM me your phone # and adderss..

We have three could use two more…

Cliff,

I’d be happy to help anyway I can. I don’t have a boat, but I would be willing to pitch in and help on the committee. I’m currently in the Air National Guard. I have some ideas to contribute to this that would be pretty cool for these heros.

I would like to donate my time and boat. If it is this year. I am leaving for Korea in Jan. and will be gone for a year. I will be home for a month next summer sometime but don’t know for sure exactly when.

:sunglasses:Just an observation and suggestion:

It shouldn’t take much to throw together a quick informal trip, with a few guys you can identify quickly through the local agencies. That will give you an idea of the process and at least get the ball rolling. However it goes it will help you know what the important issues are so that they can all be planned out for each future trip.

There is still some good fishing left this year, and I’ll bet you could get a half dozen guys pretty easy to get the program started. Heck, it ain’t like you are trying to get both sides of Congress to work out the details of a bailout…unless your boat leaks.

^ you made a funny!

Great Idea,
I dont have a boat but I will help anyway I can. I am a disabled vet myself and I cant tell you how much this would mean to the vets. I’m pretty mobile and have a few contacts at the VA Hospital.
If people dont want to go out on boats there maybe another pretty good option. Up behind Ft Douglass there is a fair size pond of water for Disabled vets only. The Va can even supply equipment. Yhe Recreation Counselor
could supply the Vets also. Let me know what you need and I will talk to the VA if you would like.
Pa

I’m in with a boat and my time,Just an idea though if we get more than four people in wheelchairs I think we should rent a pontoon for the day,it would be much easier access for the guys and they could move around freely, just an idea, maybe strawberry marina would donate the boat for the day if they knew what we where doing?
Let me know, this fall next summer it doesn’t matter to me.

I’m in too Cliff. I will donate time, boat, gear, and can take 3-4 in my boat. Great idea!!

Can any of the ones who post on this post that wants on the committee PM me your phone # and adderss.
Phone numbers sent. I live in Hooper.

:sunglasses:Something that needs to be considered is that not all disabled vets will be in wheelchairs. There are a wide range of disabilities. So, that should be a part of the “information gathering” and planning process…what is the nature of the disability and how will that affect the need to accomodate them for a day of fishing.

Sadly, some situations will probably not be workable, as far as fishing goes, but I’ll bet there are a lot of guys who would love to get out even if they could not fish.

well said Pat.

I have made a few calls and are waiting to find out you are right, and we can try for a trip, but its hard to find out who the DAV are…

I would also suggest having it on the free fishing day so licensing would not be an issue.

Don’t disabled vets (or all vets) get free or discounted fishing licenses? This might not be necessary.

As far as I know they do not get any thing like that…But they should…

Don’t disabled vets (or all vets) get free or discounted fishing licenses?
No! Here’s what the Utah Code says about it: “A resident who is blind, paraplegic, or otherwise permanently disabled so as to be permanently confined to a wheelchair or the use of crutches, or who has lost either or both lower extremities, may receive a free license to fish upon furnishing satisfactory proof of this fact to the Division of Wildlife Resources.” No mention of veterans of any health status.

Maybe you should use your supernatural DWR powers and get them to donate 1-day licenses for the event cliff.[;)]
Where is drew on this one??

:sunglasses:Hey Cliff, what kind of discount will you give the vets on “guide fees”?

It would take the DWR and the rack ten years to talk that one over…

I only charge you guide fees..

And come to think of it you still owe me from last year…
