Thanks Todd for getting this rolling I have sent you a PM. I have been asked by several people if there was going to be a DAV event this year who are willing to donate their time and/or boats. I will pass this anouncement on.
Thanks Packfan. We had another meeting with the VA and they already have 68 people signed up, if we add in the few folks that will be coming from the Ogden ad Salt Lake Veteran’s homes we are already at 70’ish. We really need boats, so far I have 6 boats signed up.
Does anyone have contacts with other organizations where we could get the word out such as Trout Unlimited, Bass clubs, fishing clubs, hunting clubs, etc??? I would be happy to come and present to them at a meeting or to send them information.
I have my NEW 21’ Alumacraft that I can take 2 in…and feel SOOO much better than I did 2yrs ago. I LOVE this event and wish you luck at getting it rolling as an annual event…even tho it is already. Just needs the rough edges smoothed. GREAT JOB!!
Update 6/25: so far we have 10 boats signed up for 19 vets. Kendall Workman donated 4 Costoco large tubs of potatoe/coleslaw salad
PACKET – Still need somone to put togehter 100 number placard packets to match up vets with boats and boat vehicles for launch and recovery.
Still needed: FOOD – We need side dishes, soda, etc. We anticipate feeding 200 to 225 people including the vets and all the volunteers at the BBQ.
**Fishing gear gifts – **Would like to put together a gift bag for each vet as we did last year. I have a list of some of the donors from last year and we will have a tax ID number for the merchants. Individual flags for each boat like we had last year as well. Possibly hats for the volunteers. Awards for biggest fish, smallest fish, most fish, etc. One off items for a raffle for the vets.
**BOAT Launch/Recovery – **boat launch and parking of rigs and boat retrieval for those who would like.
Todd I’m working on getting an email sent out to all the employees here at Hill AFB asking for volunteers. With a work force of 16 to 18 thousand I’m hoping we can get some volunteers to help out with boats or what ever. I listed your number as well as my own if they want to contact one of us to volunteer their help.
Thanks Cliff, we’d love to have your boat and any others you can think of that would like to help. Shoot me a PM and let me know your boat type, length, and how many vets you’d like to take out.
I have a 17 1/2 boat that I can handle 2 vets in. I would love to bring it and help. I have not fished Strawberry much, but still would like to take part
I would be interested in participating,
I have a 17.5’ Crestliner fishing boat & could accomidate to Vets + me. How do I go about singing up?
Thanks,
Mark C

Volunteers will furnish the boats, tackle, bait and their expertise.
The Fish and Game Department will provide the DAV’s with a free fishing day.
The Pavilion at Soldier Creek Ramp is provided and the volunteers do not need to buy a day pass.
We are also looking for donations as far as food or $$$.
The National Guard has volunteered to do the cooking for us this year.
