Sunday the seventh at Stawberry

My brother and I got up to Strawberry Res. a bit late as we started fishing around ten. We had great success around renegade bay jigging with White Gitzit 2.5" tube jigs tipped with a bit of chub meat. We picked up a friend at the dock around 12:30 and went back out and the action had slowed a bit but picked up later on in the afternoon as one would expect. We did catch seven eatin size rainbows in the mix and had a great ime all around. I do not know how many really nice sized cutts we caught but the fishing was great and the fish have a great average size. Sincerely John R.

wind was a bit blustery at times. i was ther also. trolling kokes but catching bows. went up a small draw in the narrows to check a creek out i know about. walked up a few 100 yrds and got into some elk. 1 sporting good bone!!! if anyone has a limmited wasatch archery tag. pm me.[fishin]

Were you all catching them around shoreline or in deep water? Where are they holding up now?

i have 2 buddies with that wasatch tag and neither have killed yet… call me, my name is travis 231-8977 riverton

We had the best luck pulling into a cove and starting a drift at about 12-16ft. and drifting out over water up to about 36ft. then we would turn around and pull back into the cove and start it all over again.Usually we would not wait to get into the deeper water (over 30ft.) before turning around to start another drift. We seemed to chart the most fish at the 19 to 24 ft. depths and had the most hits above those schools as well. I would like to ask the BFTer’s out there if they think tipping your jig really helps at Strawberry. I found it makes a great way to hold more smelly jelly on your jig even if it defeats the scent of the chub. I like to use scents myself. :sunglasses:

I was also there on Sunday with a buddy. We fished from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We caught 45 total fish (I keep count on a golf score clicker). 1 cutt went 27 inches and over 5lbs caught in the shallows on a minnow. We caught 8 or so rainbows with only one with any size to speak of. Sad to say, we caught 5 chubs that were good sized and gave up as much fight as some of the slot cutts. The rest were caught slow drifting worms and minnows.

It was not totally red hot, but I can’t wait until later this month and October when you can continuously catch the big cutts in shallow water.

Thanks, Powerbate

Heading up Saturday relatively early.
Did you launch at Renegade and just stay in that general area?

Or January, when you can catch them all day in 10ft of water right under the ice. You don’t even need a boat!

I can’t wait for old man winter to pay a visit!

With my little tin can of a boat (14ft SenNymph), I’m restricted a bit. I generally only fish the Renegade area for safety reasons. However, I usually catch fish and have enough space there to try all types of methods.

Lately, fishing minnows under a weighted orange bobber works best.

I’ll be back again this Sunday.

Happy Fishing, PowerBate
