Alrighty,
I am going Fishing this Saturday with a friend and his 2 sons. I would LOVE to catch a ton of trout. Last time I went was in October last year and together with a friend we pulled in over 50 cuts (they are all swimming free because we catch and release).
Anyway, here it is almost AUGUST and I haven’t gotten my boat wet in the Berry yet. So, what’s the best stuff that works there lately? Has anybody been there recently that can tell me where the fish are, and what they like to bite?
I usually jig with a white/pearl 3" tube jig or troll with the same. I have found that the jig doesn’t work too well unless you tip it with a 1/2 inch piece of Chub Meat. Night crawlers work too, but the Chub Meat seems to work best.
I usually just buy a dozen frozen chub minnows at Sportsman’s, but have caught a chub at the berry and cut it up for bait. The fresh chub seems to stay better on the hook and not fall apart like the frozen meat does.
I’ve caught a few with Rapallas and had a friend that seemed to knock 'em dead with every cast, but my best success is with a simple Tube Jig jigging, though sometimes trolling. Also, I’ve had some success with a white fly that is about 2 inches long and has no weight. I usually troll it tipped with 1/2 nightcrawler.
I used to hear that Renegade was the place to go, but I have yet in my life to get a nibble out there. If that is the place to go, could somebody send me a map with the area marked for me?
How deep is the water where the fish are?
What depth are the fish located at?
Do they want to bite near the shore, or just right in the middle of the reservoir?
I haven’t been there this year and would rather not spend most of the day hunting for the fish, so any advice would be greatly appreciated !!
If you want to PM me with particulars that you’d rather not share with the general public, that would be just fine.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
And remember, I catch and RELEASE all the time, so I’m not going to empty out the population at Strawberry ![]()
