I don’t post a lot any more so this may be my last till Oct seems like every time they start a new web site we lose people
started fishing at 5 30 AM I was by my self. for about one hour had a fish on all the time then it shut down I had a hard time using a net and holding a pole getting to old for that. so it took me till 9 am to get my 4 kokanee in the boat. had the downriggers down 45 feet to 55 feet
lost a good dodger and squid to a big kokanee stopped using the net just pulling every thing in.
some times my fish hawk would show 52 deg at 55 feet down other time it would show 52 deg. down 52 feet, on my live scope I would see fish schools come in at 35 feet but they would come down to my dodgers, not a lot of boats and no one was by me
At 84 now, I decided that fishing solo is not in my best interest. I can still catch and net them solo, but launching and retrieving the boat solo is getting to be a real chore. And I no longer have the desire to get up at O-DARK-THIRTY to go fishing. The earliest I will get up is 5:00 AM. That puts me on most of the local, behind the Wasatch Front, lakes by 7:30 to 8:00 AM. I fish until maybe 1:00 PM. I catch plenty of fish to satisfy my wants & needs.
I don’t do Strawberry or The Gorge unless I am staying there overnight. Driving for 5 plus hours and fishing for another 5 to 6 hours on a day trip doesn’t work for me anymore. I don’t need fish that bad and sometimes don’t keep any fish at all.
But your ability and desire to do that is admirable and I applaud you. Well done!
Good job Robert, I’ve been thinking about getting back to Strawberry. Just been doing the closer waters, Jordy and DC. Have to look back that way next week. Thanks for the report.
Those fish must have been hooked well, to lift them into the boat without a net but I know how it is when no one is there to net the fish for you, it’s some tough duty. Did you lose a lot of kokes, other than that big one that broke your line?
Good job, Robert! It’s awkward to use a net one handed. On Tuesday my Fish Hawk read 54.7F at 50’ and ~52 at 55’ at ~8:00. Later on the “preferred” temps had dropped ~5’. I think I’ll check it against a meat thermometer, but I think it’s accurate.
The new Fish Hawks send the temps to your phone. That would be nice as with mine I have to keep pushing the “View” button. Think I’ll take photos of it so I don’t forget.
