The neighbor and I hit Strawberry Sun. Launched out of Renegade about 6:30. There was still quite a bit of fog on the lake but it was not so thick that you couldn’t see. Visibility was 100+ yards. This burned off once the sun got to it for awhile.
It was s mediocre day, bites coming every half hour or so.
Caught only three chub trolling from Renegade point to the eastern shoreline. Once we started trolling along that shoreline things picked up. Landed a dozen or so Cutts all in the slot, several at 19" and over, the biggest at a little over 21. The unusual thing was that we landed 7 rainbows while trolling, the smallest at 14" and the largest at 17 and 18". This is the most rainbows I have caught trolling up there in many years. I think I only caught one trolling all of last year. And yes they were rainbows, no doubt.
Now the the details. We trolled the eastern shoreline from the mouth of the narrows down to were it shallows up in what we call the meadows (the wide bay popular with the still fishers at the far southeast side of Indian creek bay, [that is what the map calls that whole area around renegade,] and my map has no name for the point directly east across the bay from the marina, but we have always called it Renegade point). We trolled in 50 to 60 feet of water 25 to 30 feet down (2 3/4 colors of leaded line.) Most all of the action came with worm and popgear setups. The neighbor got a few strikes on a frog flatfish and I tried several different wedding rings hopeing to get some Kokes but with no luck. Once my neighbor went to worm and gear and started getting regular action I gave up and went with the same.
The other unusual occurance was the the wind never really came up. It would start to blow and we would think “here it comes,” but then it would let up. Around 3 it blew hard enough to create a few caps and we had had enough so we headed in, by the time we got to the dock, got the boat out and were on the road toward Strawberry marina (4:00) the lake was pretty well clam again.
I appologize for the length of my posts, but think if I am going to post something I may as well put enough info. in them to help someone else. I am a new member but have been using BFT for a few years as a resource and I think it is the best on the net for that reason. Here you don’t get two week old generalizations. Members tell you specific information that will helps others who have not been out for awile or that are inexperienced, catch fish and I would like to join others who may only use this site as an information source to thank all you guys who make regular postings.

If we all fished with the same equipment for the same species there would be no room for debate, and what fun would that be?
