Well, hit Strawberry yesterday. Rented a boat out of the Strawberry Bay Marina that had a leak in it. I’ll tell ya, $69 for a boat that you have to bail, ridiculous. I’m going again tomorrow, hopefully get a better one. That’s the first time I’ve ever had to bail through out the day.
Started fishing at 11am and fished till 6:00. Found a big school not far from Big Hole but couldn’t get anything to bite. Then once the sun started to set a little around 4pm I hooked four in the next two hours, alll on the same Rapala. All around 18"-20" inches. I clip the barbs down and boy does it nake releasing the buggers a lot easier. As long as you keep tension on the line you won’t lose em.’ You’d be surprised how even if you don’t take them into the boat and they stay wet the whole time how hard it still is having treble hooks ripped out of your jaw.
Beautiful day in all. I was up there by nyself, hard finding people to miss church on Sundays to go fishing in these parts, but understandable.
I’m still looking for serious guys to fish with… trying to figure out all the “Fishing Invites” and “Private Message” stuff that I know is neccessary on the internet.
I’ll post how I do on Tuesday. No more boat rentals come Novemebr 1st.
Glad you were able to get out there this weekend, are you trolling or casting. If you are trolling, how fast are you going? Flatfish are another good lure to use at the Berry while trolling but either way you need to keep your speed down to 1 or 1.5 mph depending on the lure. Good luck on your next outing. WH2
Okay, keeping it slow is something I’ve been trying to do. I bought a Minnkota trolling motor for the purpose of trying to keep it slower, because trolling is my primary method. I was trolling nightcrawlers so slow it’d make your eyes bleed to no avail. But when my battery died I switched to the outboard and actually caught all four with that speed, which had to be at least 2-3 mph. I think the time of day had a lot to do with it, plus the end of the weekend had the midday bite harder to come by.
I’m going to again tomorrow and I’m going to give the flatfish in my box a fair shake. I’ve had some success with them this year.
I was out there also with my son we started catching them right off the bat and stayed steady all day.You could have come with us i had put up an open invite for yesterday morning.We stayed till 545pm .To bad about the leak in the boat . I love fishing the berry but to bad for me thats its so far away. Maybe now that gas prices are finally coming down i can make a few more trips up there with my boat.
I’ll be at the Berry tomorrow too. I’ll keep an eye out for you I’ll just look for someone spending their time bailing water out of the boat. I’ll probably be the only boat on the lake with a bunch of kids in the front and two guys fishing out the back. Just look for the yellow BFT stick on a yellow boat. I’d like to get out there with you sometime. Caught four cutts yesterday, one a solid inch over the limit measuring in at 23." Beautiful fish. Received a perfectly dry boat from Strawberry Marina and I appreciate them being there for me to rent it to me. It was a great day.
