Starvation Thursday May 21

Decided to hit Starvation with the drift boat for one more peaceful day on the water without the crowds that have already started to show up. I launched the boat about 10 AM. I used bottom bouncers for about 3 hours with only one good bite from what I thought was a walleye. I seems though that I found a school of perch off one of the points near the diversion inlet. I caught two and moved on. Those perch were hitting pretty hard and aggressive and they were fatties too. The wind picked up so I opted to go have some lunch.(I ordered a pizza from the gas station. Its kinda nice to make a phone call from Knights hollow and it is ready when I get there) After lunch I decided to go back and try again despite the wind that had not really let up too much. It was about an hour till I got blown off again so I fished the channel @ the inlet with jigs. It only took a couple casts and I hit a small little walleye. I was surprised to catch one because the water is turned off right now and has been for the last 5 days. That was the first walleye I have caught in there while the water was off. The wind calmed down a bit so back to the drifter and bouncing. Right off the bat I caught another small walleye bouncing with a chartreuse blade. Then nothing… The wind started up again, and I had talked to a nice guy that told me he had marked fish close to the bottom just behind where I was troll/drifting. I then decided to throw down an anchor and started jigging with again chartreuse power grubs and green and chartreuse 1/4 oz jig head(due to the wind that had picked up again). Second cast and I nailed a really nice walleye about 3 1/2 pounds. Next couple of casts and whack again. Another walleye a bit smaller but great eater bout 2 pounds. Then the guy who told me about the bottom dwellers came over by me and told me I had anchored right on the edge of the main channel that was about 24 feet of water. Lucky guess since I dont have any electronics I just have a good idea of where the channel goes from the low water last year. So the long day payed off at the end and is too bad I finally figured them out just as it was getting too dark.

Everybody going out to Starvation this weekend have fun and watch out for idiots.
I talked to the ranger last night and they will be out in full force looking for drunkies on boats and they are eager to take people to jail. I would be smart about everything.

WOW man those are some nice lookin eyes!! Looks like you’ve got them figured out pretty well now.

Nice catch FOD and pictures

Nice report FOD and nice eyes. I need to get out and catch me some soon. I’ll probably hit it sometime this week before work.

Nice catches FOD! Glad you got in there before the holiday madness came in. Hope to make it up there in the near future. I miss that place… but that wind gets to be sumfin else! It would be great to catch some walleye and some perch. Thanks for the report!
