Looking to head that way tomorrow morning having never been there can someone let me know how the ice conditions are there. I was thinking Bunny Gulch for some perch but with the warm conditions we have had all week I dont want to drive all the way out there to not be able to fish. Also any hazards that you guys can fill me in on would be great too never can be to safe on the ice. Thanks in advance for any info your willing to share
i’m heading to rabbit gulch tomorrow am to with my 7year old maybe we will bump into each other
Looks like a few have fished bunny gulch in the back end of the bay. The nights are still cold enough to build a little ice, I think you should be fine. Be careful if you go searching around spots that you can tell nobody has ventured out on, is the only advice I could give. Use the perch eyeballs, they stay on the hook longer and still very effective bait for catching.
Thanks FOD you just put the for sure green light on my trip I will let you know how we do
Bring your tube, Mort! I know how you are! Or we can stop and buy some of them that go on your arms.
Beast I will only do the tube the arm floaties cut of the circulation when its cold and my fingers get cold lol ![]()
I was just there yesterday. If you stay on the south side of Rabbit Gulch the small perch are abundant, and the ice was about 7-8", but on the north end there is quite a bit of open water. Just an FYI
fished it last weekend didnt even need to bait your hook. was using a swedish pimple just jigged it a few times and would have a fish on everytime kinds got old after a while. but should be fun for the little ones good luck. probably headed that way sunday but will be fishing over by the bridge
i’ll be there with the boys look for the pirate flag and rip’en lips
I fished Rabbit Gulch today from 0830 to 1600. The ice is very smooth and slick, so bring some grippers. The newer ice is clear and strong and was about 5-7 inches most places I drilled. As someone mentioned, there is still some open water over toward the far shore in the direction of the islands that are across the bay from the vehicle access. There was a bunch of waterfowl and several bald eagles chasing them around.
I fished several places and I caught three nice Starvation Steelhead that were suspended about 15 feet deep in 35 feet of water. I caught a bunch of smaller perch in water between 20 and 22 feet and not too far from the access point.
There is some older ice in the upper end of Bunny Hollow and it is about 10 inches thick and not as clear as the new ice. I didn’t do very well fishing in the upper end of the bay.
Good luck.
Mike
