SMITH & MOORHOUSE REPORT

SPENT THE WEEKEND AND YESTERDAY CAMPING AT SMITH & MOORHOUSE. IT RAINED ALOT WHILE WE WERE THERE. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT AND FISH A FEW TIMES. WHAT A DIFFERENCE A FEW WEEKS MAKES.. THE FISHING HAS SLOWED DOWN A BIT BUT WE STIL PULLED OUT A COUPLE OF NICE ONES. I HAD THE BEST LUCK IN MY TUBE WITH MY FLY ROD. I CAUGHT MORE IN THE 2 HRS I WAS USING THE FLYRODE THAN I DID THE REST OF THE WEEKEND IN THE BOAT TROLLING.

[:)]That’s exactly what I wanted to hear. Me and my bro will be up there this sunday and it will be my first time fishing S&M with my fly rod. What flys were you using?

I TRIED A FEW DIFFERNT FLYS AND IT DIDN’T SEEM TO MATTER AS LONG AS THEY WERE A BIT BIGGER IN SIZE I TRIED SOME SMALL CADDIS FIRST BUT HAD BETTER LUCK WITH A LITTLE BIGGER ELK HAIR CADDIS

I will be up there on Sunday with Hoobie cruisin around in a little green boat. I just hope the weather holds out long enough to bring in a few fish.

I heard that some guys were doing good in the day with #12 Mosquito’s and better later in the evening with #16 Elk Hair Caddis on both the lake and the creek below so I’ll be throwin those around like a true amateur. I will probably bring my spinning rod though because I have no faith in my fly fishin ability.

I might have to get out of the boat and stumble around in the creek for a while tryin to catch those rainbows but we’ll see how it goes. Hope to see some of ya up there.

HAPPY FISHING TO YA!

Thanks for the report. I am hoping to get up there next week some time. Did you try any shore fishing? I am going to take my tube however will more likely be on the shore with the kids for the most part. This will be my first trip fishing there in a very long time.

I’M STILL LEARNING MYSELF.. I WOULD JUST GET IT OUT THERE THEN KICK ONE FOOT AT A TIME AND SLOWLY KICK AROUND DRAGING THE FLY AND THEY WOULD EAT IT UP..

I DIDN’T BUT SOME OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS DID.. THEY CAUGHT A FEW BUT THEY HAD TO WORK AT IT.. I REALLY THINK THE WEATHER PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN IT ALL..

Were they using the standard trout baits? Like worms, PB, eggs? I am not expecting fast catching, it is Utah and summer time, however a couple would be nice. Thanks for the info!

THEY WERE USING WORMS,PB,WORMS TIPED WITH MARSH. I STILL THINK A FLY WITH A BUBBLE WOULD CATCH A FEW FROM THE BANK..

Question on Smith & Moorhouse, what size boat can you put on the water there? Also do they have a ramp? I have a 17’ Searay and have often thought about going up there one weekend.

They have a ramp, and you can probably launch that size of boat there, but it’s wakeless speed only.

Thanks for the feedback, that will work.
