Smith and Morehouse

Anyone been to Smith and Morehouse lately? How is the fishing? Planning a small trip with the family there for a couple of nights next week for a family flotilla.

because of how it sits in the valley, SM is one of the last lower lakes to turn on. therefore the fish are smaller, dont get me wrong rumor has it there are some amazing browns in there, good luck, post pics! thats one of the prettiest lakes i have seen.

I have fished the stream below Smitty and caught some nice brookies. I have not had a chance to venture up that way yet this year, but hope too soon.

We went there about 3 weeks ago the water was still stained. They liked the RMT serpent spoons biggest fish was about 14" but action was good post a report.

I’m heading to Ledgefork this weekend and staying until Wednesday. I will post a report when I get back. Since I have small kids, I will just fish the lake somewhere off of the west road. Those streams can be a little dangerous this time of year for the kids!

I too am interested in more about this lake (I don’t mean to highjack your thread though) I have never been here, and I am curious how this lake is from the shore. also do you have to go to a state park or are there free areas as well?

If you are staying until wednesday then I will see you there. We are coming up on Monday and staying until wednesday morning. You can’t miss me on the water. I will be in the blue leigh toon. Family will be in tubes.:sunglasses:

This is National Forest land. There are two campgrounds there as well. I haven’t been there for a few years so I just wondering how the reports are right now.

That sounds good. If I’m fishing with the family, I will be in a white Ford crew cab truck. If I’m by myself, I will be on an old orange Honda Trail 90.

I’ll keep an eye out for ya!
Also we will be in a chevy astro van pulling a coleman trailer.

Was up there this last weekend. The kids did a little bank fishing off the southeast side near the river inlet. You can get there on a trail that starts just past the large bridge on the east side of the river. Used worm with powerbait “nugget” and pulled in six 10-12 inch trout around 10 to noon. Said they got a bunch more bites. Gutted one for dinner and it had two of the “nuggets” in its stomach. Guess it shouldn’t have gone back for thirds.

Thanks for the report. Out of curiosity, how were the mosquitoes? My guess if they will be out in full force at some point this summer with all the rain we have had!

Didn’t have any problems with mosquitos, although it rained off and on pretty much the whole time. I’m sure they’'re going to get bad, there were puddles all over the campgrounds.

Looks like I am having a change of plans. The kids and wife got sick and so we may end up at Jordanelle on mon or tues for the day. When they are a little better I will goto smith and morehouse.

We have also had a change in plans. We ARE going to go to Smitty on Sunday morning to try and catch a few fish. We will also try and venture up to Trial later in the day and try our luck there.
