I’ve never been fishing in Utah, but I’d like to get my 7 year old into fishing. For his first time out, I’m wanting to find some shore fishing exciting enough to keep a 7 year old interested. For this first trip, I’m thinking more quantity over quality. I keep hearing about Strawberry or East Canyon, but those places are so big I wouldn’t know where to go once I get there. Any ideas on those places, or any other good spots up north? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Take him to Mantua up Sardine Canyon and give him a pole with a worm and bobber. Fish within 10’ of the bank(pretty much anywhere on the west side) and your fingers will be sore from taking fish off the hook.[;)]
just go to a community pond and you will be into some hot fishing. theyre a lot closer than any lake or reservoir, i did great at riverton pond for catfish. just google for directions.
Mantua is a good choice and if you want to drive further and see some beatiful country you could take a drive up the Mirror Lake highway and fish the lakes near the highway.
If you’re ok with driving a ways you could always come up to Cutler Res. in Cache Valley. Just put a couple worms on a crappie rig and cast it out with a big casting sinker on the end. If you venture away from the main channel you can catch some big cats and carp.
Either Wednesday or Thursday we’re going to head up to Mantua for fishing and a picnic, but today we just ran over to Meadow Creek Pond in Roy. In about 2 hours we each caught a cat - one about 14 inches and the other about 22. All in all a good day. Can you tell he was excited?
