Planning a trip to Scofield this weekend. Does anybody know if the ice is completely off yet, trying to decide to drag the boat or just some camp chairs. Thanks for the help.[fishin]
There was some openwater last weekend. Definately not enough to launch a boat. Not sure what this weekend will bring. Fishing was awesome casting spinners.
Hit scofield late monday and there is still a cover of ice on it, tho there is alot of open water around the edges. The catching went well with a small, real small, tube in smoke and sparkle red, and a bit of minnow or chub. Caught 36, mostly tigers, and small. Six in the slot. Fished by the old dam.
Thanks for the report!
How much open water was there between shore and the ice sheet?
Thanks,
Nate
Was gonna started a new scofield report thread, but i decided I might as well post on this one since its recent. Went out on saturday afternoon/evening. My first time at Scofield, and my buddy and I had a blast. We got there at around 5:30 and fished until it was too dark to see anything. The fishing was pretty fast the whole time, but the best just before dark. Between the two of us, we caught around 20 fish using mostly kastmasters. There was still a lot of ice on the lake, but definitely enough open water around the edges to catch some fish. Most of the fish were small, around 10-14 inches, but caught a couple bigger ones. We mostly caught rainbows and cutthroats, no tigers, which is what I was after since I have never caught one before. Theres a good 20-30 feet of open water along a lot of the edges, but still a lot of ice everywhere else. Since it was my first time out to Scofield, I would appreciate any tips on where the bigger fish are, and what to use for those nice tigers, would love to catch a few of those. The north and south ends are pretty much ice free also.
