scofield 2/27

Sorry about the late posting. I went up to scofield last thurs. Hit the trail South of the Homes on the East side. Getting to the lake was the worst. I kept falling through the crust up to my waist, stopping by putting out my arms. The drifts were VERY deep. Snowshoes would have been great.
The lake has about 8 or 10 inches of snow a frozen slush layer then a layer of slush. Went out about 100 yards and cut 3 holes for 2 poles and a finder. 20 feet of water. Cleaned out the first hole dropped down a small glow white tube jig and before I could clean out my next hole, fish on. I took me 20 minutes to get 2 poles in the water at the same. I had 2 fish on numerous times. I,d set the hook put the pole between my legs and land the other fish. I caught more fish in 2 and a half hours than all season ice fishing. Most were between 15 and 19 inches and a few little 7 or 8 inchers. All were bows. This the 3rd time on that lake this year and I haven’t had it so good for seasons. Tough getting to and from where I fished. Worked up a good sweat going out and in. But what a day on the ice. Now I want to get back up there before the ice is gone. It doesn’t look good, dang. This is the first year I didn’t want winter to end. I HAVEN’T HAD ENOUGH ICE FISHING.’

Sounds like a great day. Nice report. This is my first year ice fishing and I too don’t want it to end. Well ice off is pretty fun so I am looking forward to that.

Glad to hear you had a good time. I have been there the last three weekends with good to excellent results. Access is difficult as you mentioned, but the fishing is great. I’m skipping work tomorrow(3/3) and going up again!

I had similar experiences last year in late Feb/early March. I think Scofield gets overlooked in the late season.
