Salem Pond

Went out to Salem Pond today. I didn’t expect much success but I had to get out of the house. We didn’t get any bites but saw a few guys catch some. Warm water fishing is just not my thing. I’ve always had great success ice fishing and then spring comes and things thaw out and it all just stops for me. What the heck am I doing wrong? I tried shrimp and a worm last year at several places and caught some cats and a white bass and one stray trout. But when I’m targeting trout I don’t what to use. Spinners, powerbait on a bobber, worms, salmon eggs, rapalas… I’ve tried them all and never had any luck. Any tips for a beginner? Thanks in advance guys.

The line your using has alot to do with it. I like a six pound p line. Also when there are group trips on here go and there will be lots of people to give you pointers. Sounds like you are using the right stuff though keep it up!

Which Salem Pond are you fishing the one in Sandy or the one in Salem Utah

Salem Pond in Salem is a tricky place to fish. When I go for the trout I will fish the West side by the bridge (the one all the kids jump off of) if Im not having any luck there I drive to the west side and cast between the middle and the reeds. this spot is also good at night for the kitties.
When going for the trout there I use 3 different types of power bait. Green sparkle, rainbow sparkle, and captin america (red white and blue) the other thing is, I you might find this strange but instead of shaping the power bait into a ball I do a tear drop shape on a small worm hook. If nothing else happens then I just use a bobber and a very small piece of worm and comb the edges by the bushes and catch blue gill ,perch and the occasional smallie.
I can go one day and not get anything and go the next and have the time of my life.
I generaly go late afternoon into evening. get some bow’s and then the kitties come in.

Good luck,

Law
