decided to hit rockport yesterday and went on a little perch search in an area ive picked them up at in years past but not for a while. drilled our first set of holes and dropped down it was 52 ft of water, perfect depth but only had rainbows wanting to play down there, we couldnt keep them off,[alot of fun though}. anyways i was in a perch finding mode so i went around and started drilling holes just out from where we were, i dropped down and bam a nice 9 inch perch, seemed like a good sign and it was dropped down again and managed to pull two 11-12 inchers kept fishing there and it asnt that hot but it was enough sction to keep you busy.the perch in here are also very big on average between 10-11 inches with a few that hit the tape at 12. pretty cool gettin some perch there since it has been slow for me atleast the last few ice seasons trying to pick them up, we fished until 1:00 on which the bite completely died. so in all i caught12 trout and 16 perch pretty nice day weather wise aswell. is anyone else on the forum picked any up?
most of them were 10 to 15 down in 50 feet of water, and then we had a tons of bites right off the bottom fishing for perch. most the people there fish close to shore for trout but you can ge them in the deeper water not even fishing for them. the trout were likin mealies aswell.
Nice report JP1, thanks for sharing it. We had the same luck last year but in shallow water. No luck for perch at all there this past week, then Ira mentioned we had been fishing later, in March and the light bulb went on[;)], I’ve got to try deeper water on my next trip. How much deeper did you go to find them yesterday, a PM will be fine, if you don’t mind sharing a little more info .

Dude - you’re living up to your name! Glad to know there ARE findable perch there, and with some good size.
Of course you released them all so they can grow bigger for another day, right! (please know - I’m TOTALLY kidding! [pirate])
Look forward to giving it a try. I’ll have to hook up with ya, maybe you can ‘show me the zone’ when they have the Rockport fest. I wanna drop the camera into a busy school of perch - that is THE BOMB! (just don’t say that near a dam, right?!)
Thanks for the report.
I’m with ya - target the perch, and ‘trout happens’ - as it were! Maybe we should make a T-Shirt or bumper sticker?!
NICE! Daughter and I were lookin’ for perch last time we were at Rockport and got none. Marked a few on the fish finder but got no bites. Guess we needed to go deeper [;)] Thanks for the report!
We went out from the Twin Coves campground. I didn’t mark a fish all day. Then we went to Smith &Morehouse and still smell of skunk.
Maybe I will do better next week.
I fished last weekend a couple days in a row. Them trout are right under the ice 5-10 feet the further you get out in the middle of the res. the more bites you get. But they are a real light bite. I am going saturday again I have been using them Jaw Jackers been catching about every other fish. I am going to go out deeper and try for Perch. sorry about the skunk smell.
no taggers today but ya i always get more bites in deeper wter just under the surface even when im trying to drop down for perch the trout will hit it.
it was about 5 or 6 inches but a little sketchy on the edges, made alot of noise but still gettin really cold at night, i havent been up there since monday i wonder how its doing now?
