Hit Rockport from about noon to dusk. Solid 6 plus inches of good hard ice.
Caught some keeper Perch, that generally were bigger than what I caught at Pineview last week. Not real fast fishing, but challenging to hook the light biters. Fun for me!
I am attaching a picture that I resized, but don’t know exactly how big it can be, so may not show.
Nice looking perch man!! My brother wants to go to Rockport this weekend but I wanted to hit Willard. Those perch may have changed my direction. How deep of water were you fishing in???
Thanks for the post. They are some decent size perch a lot bigger then the last ones I caught out of Rockport. Did you have to do a lot of moving around to locate them or were they easy to find? How deep were you fishing?
I don’t take a depth finder with me anymore, so I would guess it was 50 feet deep based on how many turns of my reel handle (about 2 ft. per turn) to bring it back up off the bottom.
Of course I was targeting Perch, so I walked out to deep water and fished the bottom.
I was in about 50 feet of water. I didn’t move around a lot. I have a place I had luck before that is South of the boat ramp and out from the rocky shoreline.
My thinking is that the fish will eventually come around to see/smell what is going on. I had enough action that I stayed in the one place.
I use to love fishing for the perch at Rockport, hopefully they are making a comeback. The last few years has been tough but those look like some good fish. Nice haul[;)]
