ROCKPORT 1-2-12

Talked the wife into going up to the rock on the last day of winter vacation before the kids go back to school and I go back to work. was a great idea gone mediocre.

arrived about 10ish (didnt clock the arrival) parked at the dam pull out with about 100 other cars/trucks it seemed, plenty of room on the ice, went down and hit the hard deck. no snow on top and lots and LOTS of slick clear ice first few holes we punched were a solid 9 to 10 inches thick, but the popping and groaning was making the missus nervous. dropped line in and dangit 15 feet deep. we set up the ice tent and chairs and camera aimed at the baits and waited, waited some more and waited longer, no fish not even a hit today. did end up seeing several (maybe 10 total) cruise around our location, didnt see/or hear anyone else slaying them either. few folks had a few on the ice, maybe heard two caught while we were there until 3pm. good clear day, kids got to play on the ice. we did move out to water about 35 to 40 foot deep for half an hour with nothing. so we opted to come home get warm and make pork chops.

all in all a nice day out with the family, next weekend thinking of pineview or the rock again. if anyone wants to meet up one of those places, shoot me a PM, I will answer later in the week and see what or where the diggity is going to be.

tight lines, deep holes.

Bad Fish

I also hit Rockport with a few friends yesterday and today…Slow both days managed 7 yesterday and 10 today. Talked with many folks with the same luck. It looked like a small city out there today. Maybe the noise and pressure slowed them down, either way great weather to be out.

I spent the day at Rockport also. You’re right, it was like a city out there. Never seen so many people fishing there.
I managed to catch two rainbows, nothing to write home about, but it did take all day. There was a group of three kids near us, ages approximately 9-12 or so and they were just reeling them in. Made all the adults in the area look pretty bad. Still had a great time and is always good to get on the ice. It was a fabulous beautiful day. Did you see the bald eagles flying around? They were beautiful.
We were on the west side parked in the area near the second bathroom from the dam.
Hope to run into you sometime on the ice.

me and the daughters bf went there started fishing around 9:45. Once we found what they were hitting and what depth they were hitting at it was game on we turned back a grundle and endeded up with our limits.
On way home by 12:00. Ice was noisy as heck. Cracking all Over.

What area were you fishing? I am headed up tomorrow. PM me if you don’t want to say online. Thanks for your report.
