Went to Scofield we drove around to the boat dock on the back side and went out around the point and set up our shack there the ice was 10 inches thick. We were fishing in 20 ft of water and had fish on the finder anywhere from the top to the bottom. Hit the ice about 8:30 had a hit right after we got set up on a red/blue/clear jig tipped with pb and that was it for me all day my dad had hits on jigs tipped with a meal worm, an ice fly tipped with salmon eggs he had two that were almost hooked before they got away we fished in the same spot all day but couldn’t find anything that they liked packed up and headed home at 3 going to try it again on the day after Christmas same lake different spot.
Sorry to hear it wasn’t as fast on your end. We hopped on the sleds at 8:30 and sped out to the island for a great day on the ice. Ice and water depths were about the same but we almost constantly had bites on most anything we tried. Ice fly w/mealy seemed to work the best. Just average fish 1 - 2 lbs, tried for the tiger troutskies but didn’t see any. Left around 2 with a couple fish for the dinner plate.
so is there too much snow or could I get my four wheelers out on scofield right now???
I was up there on the 23rd and took my atv. Snow was about 4 inches. I parked at the east side just south of the dam inlet about 1 mile. I pulled my tent, two small sleds and 2 passengers out to the island. I have a Honda Foreman 500. With no weight and just a driver, the atv ran around the ice in 4th gear just fine…never got going fast enough to get into 5th gear…too cold. Didn’t try it in 2 wheel drive.
Fishing was okay. We didn’t get there until 10:30. I caught 10 and the others caught 4 and 2. Lots of dinks.
ok thanks for the info…
We had our best day ever at scofield on saturday. caught fish about every 5 minutes from 10:00 to 2pm. rat finkies on top with meal worm and whatacrickets/little tough guys on the bottom with nightcrawler or minnnow chunk. all were nice fat rainbows, only two planters. pics attached
nice work there my friend! that is a good looking rainbow ya got there!!
i just might have to get over to scofield my self soon.. lol
That’s a dandy rainbow, Brandon! Looks like you folks had a good outing!
“all were nice fat rainbows, only two planters” Congrats on a great day and nice looking fish. Curious how you came to the conclusion that most weren’t planters?
to clarify, only two were 8-10", the rest were a couple inches smaller than the smallest pic I posted
we also threw everything back so we could catch them again next week.
also, one of tanya’s nice ones broke off at the hole. About an hour later my dad pulled a fish out and it had tanya’s jig hooked in its lip. We should have kept that greedy fish but we threw him back too
Very nice fish. I fished it 3 years ago and never caught anything like that. Maybe i’ll have to try it again.
