Since Ice off at Strawberry is coming sometime in the near future I wanted to ask a few questions.
My brother and I have been going there for a few years and have found a few good fishing areas , and an idea of baits to use.
We dont have a boat so we are on the lake shore traveling around.
Are there any spots any of you recommend for us on the lake shore?
and also Are their any baits you recommend?
We usually bait fish , powerbait ,worms, etc.
I rarely shore fish at the Berry but I have done Ok using a casting bubble and either a night crawler, power bait or a fly works great also. A spot I have seen some big bows caught, is Chicken Creek West, these fish were not caught around the parking area but a 1/4 to 1/2 mile East of where you park. I think the farther you walk the better the catching. Good luck and let us know how you do. WH2
I too am a shorebum, and I have found that pretty much anywhere on the soldier creek side is the ticket at the berry from shore. This is just my opinion. I like to fish the cliffs near the damn. If you dont hook up on the bait try a small white tube jig, usually will pick up one or two.
Add some minnows to your selection of baits. It is difficult to find any fresh ones at Strawberry these days, but when I could catch them in my casting net (I once caught over 100 of them with one cast of the net) they were my go-to bait all day long. Hiking down and fishing some of the smaller bays on the west side should yield some fish, especially early and late in the day.
