I’m no expert at catching Kokes but it seems like you got the right tackle for it. I would try the Soldier Creek side. Troll all over till you find them. Seems to me that if you go around 2 miles an hour or a little more you might have better luck hooking into one. Try different depths as well. Caught them all over the column but you need to find them first. Good luck. I know its vague but it should help out a little.[;)]
I don’t know much about solider side
I mostly fish the strawberry side.
the link I gave you tells you a lot.
have at least one Squid, apex or pro troll Kokanee Killer on one poll.
in Koke colors
RMT has a Strawberry Fishing Tip
Here are two areas I’ve done well for the kokes. Standard salmon tactics and gear as you mentioned should work just fine. I’ve always done better with spoons but that’s what I have confidence in so that could just be me. I haven’t been salmon fishing in a couple weeks so I’m not sure if they’ve moved deep yet but shallow was better for us. Most came on planer boards with snap weights with only a small handful coming on the riggers set at 8’. Without side imaging we would have never seen the fish we were catching, too high in the water column for standard 2D finders. If you don’t see them deep, go shallow and hope for the best. Hope this helps.
I don’t want to be a downer but it’s still a little early for kokanee at the berry. I was there Saturday. Water temp was 50 degrees . used all my tricks and managed only 9 fish none salmon .marked salmon around the old dam . and over by sage hen knoll. but. also tried soldier creek and the narrows. .it sounds like you have the right stuff. for good success. it’s a matter of timing now. good luck
let us know if you got your Kokes.
I was at Strawberry Marina today
fishing was slow untill we found the right lures
got a lot more Rainbows than cutthroats. no Kokes.
using two downriggers one leaded line pole and a side planer board.
(4 rods) got them between 10 and 30 feet. most fish were 15" to 17"
long
Saturday was real rough . I could mark the kokes but couldn’t get them to bite, not a problem though I usually have a day like that each year at the berry
