poontoon reg. info

Well today I finally regestered the toon so I can use the motor I bought about two months ago. I went to the Ogden DMV and had no problems heres a break down of what I paid if anyone is curious..

local sales tax–3.50
mass transit tax–1.75
state sales tax–16.62
search and rescue–.50
county options tax–.87
registration–11.25
total–34.49

I don’t think most people should have to pay the state sales tax if you bought your tube/toon in Utah, I didn’t pay any sales tax on mine when I bought it so they got me when I registered it. So plan on about $17.00.

Can someone please tell me why a pontoon craft needs to be registered ?? Also why so much, my 18ft Skeeter with a 175 Merc on it only costs $78.00 to register. $35.00 seems a bit stiff !!!

Well the simple answer is it generates revenue. Thats it.

Again, if it has a motor, it must be registered. The cost for this is around $20. to $25. (I can remember for sure right now). This is a fixed price for all tubes, canoe, pontoon, and smaller boats I believe. It won’t change it is fixed. I think you paid more because it was a first, or the sales tax thing.
If any of you go to register on with a motor, I will find out for sure how much I paid, and it shouldn’t be any more than that. New law this year on them.
Therapist, you are paying for the boat and the motor, toon/tubers only pay for motor.

Actually they didnt charge me for the motor just the toon, when I handed her the recipt for the motor she just handed it back to me and said I just need the one for the boat.

:sunglasses:As with many things in life we must endure…“AIN’T NO GOOD REASON FER IT…IT’S JUST POLICY.”

We don’t have to like it, but we gotta live with it. Kinda like marriage.

Sorry Honey. Ouch, ouch.

What I ment was, you don’t have to license a Tube or Toon unless you put a motor on it.
But you are right, when we had our 14 then 16 foot boat, we licensed the boat because the motor was a 25 hrsp. we didn’t have to license the motor.
