Hue and I fished Pineview yesterday. Paying $25 to launch is painful, but because it is closer than most places I fish, the gas savings makes up for it. The goal for me was to catch bait (perch for Utah Lake and sturgeon and crappie for sturgeon) and Hue’s goal was to catch some crappie to eat. With Cemetery Point being the only ramp that was open, I made my maiden launch from that ramp. A young lady, who collected our fee, said that they had put some fill into the bottom of the ramp and that it made launching easier. We had no difficulty launching, but it is obvious that the ability to launch is extremely temporary.

We slow-trolled (or is it strolling?) over much of Pineview. The most common catch was small mudcats (which I consider useless except for children to catch) and we would find an occasional crappie or perch until the last couple hours. I don’t know if it was because we finally found the right area, the wind started blowing, or because we changed our fishing technique, but it was fast action for the last couple hours.

We ended up catching 44 crappie (largest was at least 12 inches), 4 perch and at least 30 mudcats. Another fun outing with Hue.

Wow, 30 mudcat, I’ve never heard of anyone catching that many Mudcats at PV. Catching crappie up to 12" sounds good but I’m surprised you did not catch more perch. Were any of the perch over 9"? Were there any power squad folks there? Thanks for the report Kent.

The largest perch was maybe 9". 5 jet skis were running around in the afternoon, but they were respectful and kept their distance. As we were leaving a huge wakeboard boat was in the parking lot (it had 3 axles on the trailer). I’m not sure whether or not it was able to launch.

It was good to get in one last trip into PV before the draw down dried up all the launches. The cloud cover in the morning was enjoyable compared to the blistering sunshine in the afternoon. All morning we trolled between .5 to .8 mph bouncing dropshots off the bottom. in the afternoon we raised the baits off the bottom to try higher in the water column. The bite frequency picked up as well as the wind. All of my fish were on jigs with yellow crappie nibbles. Another enjoyable day with Kent.
