Fished PV both Friday and Saturday
Conditions:

Fri arrival temp was -4 departure 14
Sat arrival temp was -2* departure 18*
Each morning PV was totally socked in with fog for a couple hours until the sun was up far enough to burn it off. Both days it was partly cloudy and I don’t believe the temp either day was above freezing
Ice conditions:
Medium hard upper crust snow layer 6-8” with under layer of slush and water 3-4”. Later in the afternoon as it warmed upper crust became softer as breaking through happened more often. Established ice beneath the upper slush and snow is a good 12-14”.
For the trek onto and off the ice we stayed on previously made sled paths these paths packed down the upper layer to the slush layer and it was frozen solid. Even on these paths you could definitely see previous weeks anglers who busted through.
Now if we ventured off established path ways we’d bust through every now and again. Someone bigger I’m sure will bust through more often. I’d see other anglers off in the distance busting through to the slush.
My advice is if you go to PV stay on established paths as long as you can to make the trek out easier. Once off the paths be ready for a workout.
Saw a couple snowmobiles on the ice each day…one stopped by to visit and as he came up he hit a slush pocket but nothing really bad. Saw a lot of sled tracks that definitely hit large slush pockets from earlier in the week. Didn’t see any ATVs on the ice at all.
PV slush monster is vanishing…but with today’s storm and predictions this week including warmer temps…its anyone’s guess on the ice conditions for next weekend.
**Now onto the fish’n portion.

Lures used: Ants, Demons, Rat Finkees, Genz jigs and Swedish Pimples.
Tipped lures with waxie, crawler, crappie nibble. At times used a combination of each on the lure hook.
Fished in water 40-45’ marking fish on the flasher from the bottom and at times up 15’ off the bottom. Numerous bait pods came through.
Fishing rating for both days was fair to slow.
Crappie were caught in the AM then late afternoon. Larger Perch caught during the time the Crappie were napping. Lots of dink Perch and Crappie caught throughout both days.
Hopefully the little storm that came through today (Sunday) and the upcoming week predictions doesn’t undo all the colder temps the last 4 days have tried to do in taming the evil slush monster.
