Two buddies and myself headed out to PV this morning. One of them was his first time on the ice.
We got a late start as our first time ice fisher was held up…so we got on the ice around 9. Headed out from the port ramp and just fished the end of the docks. I set our first timer up with a sweedish pimple and a gizzy bug set up and had him drop his line down. Right when he hit bottom…WHAM…pulled in a really nice 10 1/2 in crappie. Figured this was gonna pan out to be a great day! Fishing was steady but nothing to holler about.
Other than that crappie and a handful of 8-9 in perch everything else that we pulled up were dinks(mix of perch and crappie). Nice overcast warm day on the ice tho. Most of our fish were caught within a few feet of the bottom on a glow ratso or gizzy bug. We fished for most of the day in 45ft of water or so. We did try closer to the ramp in 18ft but only caught a few more. Fishing slowed way down by 1:30 so we bailed.
Getting on and off wasn’t an issue at all. The road getting in wasn’t bad but just stay in the tire tracks and don’t head down the ramp. There was a thick layer of snow that even with 4-wheel drive may cause you a bit of a headache.
We ran into a fellow BFTer on the ice who had a strange but awesome day…Can’t wait for his post!
