Bearlake I think it would be nice that if you edit a post you let them know why.
I have tried to post picture on here before but my picture are to big not the fish but the picture picks or some thing ..
Well CBR has been kind and doing it for me and now he is over on the other web site so if I talk about my fishing trips I can’t post my picture to be seen…
So I guess that from now on I will try to play your games and just say the picture are on that other web site or would you not want me to post at all…
YOU BOTH HAVE GREAT SITES and people go to all three BFT, FREEFROM, and DWR so why act like babes…
I have told people about all three when I meet other fisherman on the water and else where so watts the Beef…
Cliff, you can resize your own pictures by E-mailing them to yourself. This is a trick that one of the other members posted the other day and it seems to work, give it a try and see what happens. WH2
You know exactly why I edited it, Cliff. That obvious from your message. Moderators have been asked to remove any links, especially those that promote other websites. It’s a policy that we have been extremely lax with and will be enforced with a little more vigilance. It’s not a game nor is it personal. If you have a beef with policy and want it changed, PM or e-mail theangler. He’s the one who sets policy for us.
Hey BLM, can you just clarify for me about the links? You said your supposed to remove any links-- do you really mean ANY links??? What about informational links to news articles? What if someone asks about fishing knots, can’t I give them a link to a site that shows how to tie knots? That’s just a couple of examples, but you get my drift. Hopefully I just read it wrong.
There is a fine line from information and “promotion” but I’m not going to to touch a link that is clearly an information link for an article or a product, though theoretically I should. If it’s a link to another message board, I’ll delete it.
Bigfishtackle spends a lot of money to try and promote itself through different avenues to try and generate usage of it boards and hopefully help it’s paid sponsors make money on their products. By allowing other message boards to use Bigfishtackle and it’s resources as a spring board to promote their boards is unethical. Its a form of stealing. That is why we have been asked to deter such promotion of other message boards and businesses.
As I said, its not personal nor is it a game, its just business. BFT is not the only message board on the web with this policy. All the big message boards have this type of policy in place. Also a lot of major message board requires fees and other such nonsense. We are lucky that BFT can generate enough revenue to enable it to provided a quaility environment for free.
Wouldn’t you wish to protect your resources that you have invested your hard earned money and time in trying build only to have others use your resources to build their businesses? Bigfishtackle is a prime target because it’s large usership is prime picking for fledging boards trying to increase it membership and hopefully, it’s revenue. Somebody has to pay the bills for all message boards.
Again, I have been asked to follow the policies of BFT. I will try and do it fairly without deterring good converstion and information passing amongst our users. I hope everyone can understand BFT’s position in this matter. Thanks!
My friend, you said that it is unethical and stealing to post links to other competitive web sites on this message board.
But you know as well as anyone that posting links to BFT utah on other message boards is exactly how bft utah was built.
Hundreds of post on the Utah fish finder site, the north american fishing club utah site, utah on the fly’s site, and many others plus thousands of emails and pms sent out to invite folks to come to BFT utah is what built this place.
Now, I wish to make it clear that you had no involment in these unethical events and this theft that occured, but its not really all that evil. (I wouldnt want to implicate one of my good friends in activites he wouldnt want to be associated with)
I do think it was a little harsh to edit the refrence. The guy made a fishing report. Hes never been able to post his own pics and so he just told the folks where they could find them.
But believe me, i understand, this is about money and buisness not sharing bassrods photos.
I say let the links roll out on the boards. BFT has been the premier utah fishing forum for years. Doug millers board, the DWR board and a few others have all been linked here and they have not been the death of this board. This boards usership is the factor that keeps it on top. As long as the quality fishing reports and info is there, BFT will be on top regardless of how much money is spent.
Obviously I am talking to you and you have no say in what is allowed. You are just the inforcer. Sucks to be you.[;)]
Thanks BearLakeMack I tried to find the picture, but can’t find witch folder I put them in, Nex time OK…
Sound like we need to take the boats and hit the open water at the Gorge…
It would be my pleasure, Cliff. Any time. The Gorge is always a good time! We’ll be up there the first week in June. That may be a great time. The smallies will be active and probably spawning and the mack and koke fishing is good too.
WE LOOKED AT THE SITE AND SAW HOW MANY OVER 30 HE BOATED IN MAY AND DECIDED TO HIT IT THEN. JIM SAID ITS COLD STILL BUT THE BIGGUNS ARE VERY AGRESSIVE THEN. COME ON SPRING… LOOKING FOR A 40 PLUS THIS YR…
