Pelican Lake??

Just wondering if i can get some insite on how to catch some fish on pelican its a really long drive for me with not knowin what to use any insite would help thanks in advance. [fishin]

The main fish there are bluegills and bass, so they are not exactly hard to catch. The panfish are a little sluggish in winter, so they often just kinda drift up to your bait and sip it in, then sit there, so a spring bobber or slip-float is a good idea.

Otherwise, drill and move until you get on to fish. A fish finder would make it a cake-walk I think. My best winter spot has been straight out from the boat dock almost to the center of the lake, but I’ve only been twice on the ice. The water is a little deeper there and there are some weeds and stuff. Probably good areas here and there all across the lake.

We just used brightly colored ice flies and small jigs, tipped with crawlers and waxies. I also put on some cheap little wet flies as an experiment (the kind you always see in the package of 10 or 20 for 2.99, with one tied to look like a bee and a lot of tinsel, etc..) and caught some fish, but I had to add weight to them so feeling the bite was harder and they would often swallow it before I saw or felt the line move. Same with when we tried small bits of bait on a regular hook.

In summer, the bass will hit anything bass will hit, but you just have to figure them out for the day. A whole crawler with just a tiny sinker would probably get you a bunch of hits through the ice, but there are probably good lures like jigs, spoons, etc. The one I caught through the ice, about 1.5 lbs, just grabbed a bright pink 1 1/2" tube jig I had on and took off. If I was going to target bass, I’d probably se tube jigs or some little bluegill imitator plastics I have in my box.
