Nite float tubing

In one of our float tubing friendly lakes they do nite float
tubing every couple of mounts ( 6pm - 12pm).
JimT and I went to try it out. My Madison is not ready yet
so I took my SFC.
Fishing was very very slow but I got to try float tubing
at nite. It is a cool experience. I think I may have to do
it again.
Also we took some safety test there (3 minutes) and got
free life jacket and other cool little things.
Over all it was a nice experience.
Just sharing.

Hey Jim- As always it was pleasure to see you and talk
with you.[;)]

sounds awesome… too bad it was too dark to take pictures… what lake was it??

MacFly :sunglasses:

One of the most memorable times that I have is tubing on Jordanelle Res just after 9-11. Nice and quiet then the water exploded around us. A nice little hatch happened and I ended up with a 16 inch rainbow on ultralight tackle. All after dark too.

Try it on a full moon if you really want some fun.

That sounds like a blast, but I would probably wimp out at about10pm. Either that or fall asleep in my tube.

Are you bass fishing? Is it best to use a red light to tie your fly on or just do it by guess?

We tore up Salmon dam a few times at night. I fished Strike at night and was skunked. I like night fishing. Ron

I prefer the red light. Doesn’t spook the near by fish as much.

Are there any safety issues on the reservoirs that there might be boats on? Running lights?

I guess you have to have a light on to be legal. I use led stick on lights and I use two or three of them. Ron

Hello everyone.

There were no boats on the lake. They cleared the lake
just for the nite float tubing. This is organized event that
happens every couple of mounts I think.
We hat about 12 tubers. I think there were only 3 of as
fly fishing for bass.

Red light- Yeah, I will use it next time…

Full moon- I would love to do it on full moon but there
is no choice. It is when it is [frown]

Next time I will try to take some pictures.

I have a boat white lite that is mounted on the top of my trolling motor, this one is 12V but I would like to have one that is just battery powered.

I also have one of those red multiple pattern fashing clip on lites that walkers or runners have, on my hat.

The boat lite is bright enough to work by, but I have a problem with depth perception, missed netting a nice walleye, kept thinking I was reaching far enough and would miss, at least that’s my excuse[;)]

I would like to try some of the green attractor lites some time. I wonder if those green emergency lites would work.:sunglasses:

Was that the castaic trip? Bummed that I missed it… Please let me know of the next one I was wondering if you could camp overnight on the lake too

So in Calif. is it only on certain occasions or nights that you are allowed to night fish? It sounds like this was a special trip that was arraigned for float tubes. Are most of your waters that way?

Yes, it was the Castaic Lagoon. If you go to they site there is all the info.
There is also a campground at the other side of the lake.
I was thinking about camping there just becouse why not.
Hope this helps.

Well, there is not that many natural lakes here. Most are
man made reservoirs. So yes, they want everyone out by dark. Sucks but thats what it is.

Peter

Peter,

Great fishing with you even if the fishing was not so good.

It’s a great experience being out on the lake on such a beautiful night (no wind, no boats).

Cpierce,
Most of our lakes do not allow night boating outside of these “special events”. A few of them allow shore fishing at night.

Jim

I rigged a clamp on navigation light onto my toon. Works both as a work light and navigation light.:sunglasses: Runs off of two D cell batteries.

You gotta get up here out of California and I will take you out after dark on one of out lakes. You will love it. :sunglasses:

I just may take you up on it one day

Hey Peter I was wondering if you could PM me the next night float. I looked at the site and everything looks great!! I plan on staying the night instead of trying to leave at midnight. How big is the lagoon? & was there an inclusive price or is it the $11 for your car & the $6 for non-motorized vessel? Thanks for the help I’ve been dying to try new spots out and see some other tubes and tubers out there, few and far between down here.
