Newton 1-12-08

I hit Newton this morning along with at least 20 plus other people near the dam. The perch action, consistant with the last few weeks, was hot for little ones. I think you can pretty much catch perch with about anything that will fit in their mouths anywhere in the lake less than 25 feet of water. As long as you put the lure down on the bottom, it is just bite after bite untill you can set the hook.
I started shallow and worked my way deeper. Although the action was somewhat slower I caught larger fish (8"-10") in the deeper water. Most people around the lake that I saw seemed to be catching fish consistantly. I saw one group of suspended fish, but I had no luck getting them to strike. I was using a swedish pimple, with a chartruce plastic/jig dropper.
Not many keepers, but overall it was a good day.

No tigers huh?

How thick is the ice, I’d like to take the snowmobile up tomorrow

How was the walk down to the ice? Or better yet, how was the walk back up? My sled is getting heavier and heavier every year and I want to take the kids out there tomorrow. (they dont help pull the sled back to the truck).

How was the slush?

Ice was pretty thick probably 8 inches or so of clear, I didn’t measure. I saw several snowmobile tracks on the ice and there were ATV tracks earlier this week. There was minimal slush along the edges and about a foot of snow on the lake. The snow was deeper and drifted in places on the walk in though.
As for the Muskys, I dunno I’ll have to get back out and see if I can find one hehe.

Thanks

Thanks for the report, sounds like the action was great. Good trip
