I just recently moved to Las Vegas, and have been trout fishing up in the UP of michigan and loved it. However, being new to the west, i was wondering where would be a good place for a beginning fly fisherwoman to go. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [:)]
pm flygoddes. she will have info. and welcome aboard.
I lived in Vegas for the last five years and loved it. As far as the fishing goes, it it few and far between. I fished comins reservoir(4hrs north) just south of Ely quite a bit. In the winter when they do the trout plants at lake mead, you can throw some big streamers imitating trout and do well on the stripers. I usually fished southern Utah and did well. You have sand hollow and quail creek I think in St George for Bass. Kolob Reservoir is just north of Zion National Parkand does well for me. Minersville reservoir is a good fishery outside of Beaver Utah. There are a few lakes and streams up Cedar canyon outside of cedar City that can give you some fun.
You might have to travel to do your fly fishing. Generally 3-4 hours are the places listed.
PM me if you need any other info. I also know where all the urban ponds in Vegas and Boulder City are. I mostly fished there cause that is all they had that was close.
Proline
By the way, my house is for sale in Boulder City just outside Vegas and next to Lake Mead. 5 minutes to the lake. Veterans Memorial Pond is very close as well. Only 15,000 people here, great quiet community to get out of the glitz and glamour of Vegas. And crime!!
Welcome aboard! as far as rivers I would say logan river as far as a nice lake I would say smith morehouse. hope that helps
Welcome aboard, I lived in Henderson most of my life before moving north. I spent most of my time at lake mead and caugh lots of fish. It’s actually where I leared to use a fly (ironic)You can also hit the colorado river, but I think it’s technically in Arizona.
