Mantua was HOT! How was Pineview?

Wife and I went up to Mantua today and fished over by the knoll and it was HOT! Caught 6 trout, 15 perch that averaged about 8 inch and one bluegill. It’s usually good over there for bluegill. Don’t know where they are. The trout were down about 7 feet and the perch came up off the bottom to bite. About 14 feet of water. White foxie micro jigs. We are heading over to Pineview tomorrow and I was wondering how anyone did today in the narrows.

Can you tell me how the ice was with all the warm weather we have been having? I want to take the snowmobile out, but I don’t know if it is safe or not.

The ice at Mantua was great. There were snowmobiles and four wheelers all over it today. I’d say it was about 12 inches thick. I went over to Pineview last Thursday and it was about 7 inches thick with maybe 2 inches of good clear ice on it.

Thanks, I think I will hit it on Monday. Oh, how bad was the slush and snow on top of the ice?

It froze pretty good last night. No slush at all. Good and solid. Maybe about an inch of snow on it.

Well, that just sounds like a great spot to take the snowmobile and my daughter out for a morning/afternoon of ice fishing. Do you happen to know where I can get a lake map so I can pick a couple of spots to try, I really want some perch for the frying pan.

Also, Do I need to worry about any running water/warm spots/streams that might have week ice around it. I am VERY new to Utah and I am still learning the lakes.

Thank
Jimmy

Got to the View at 1:30 and fished till dark. Caught 8 bluegill and that was it. One crappie bite. Seen a monster carp caught. Talked to a fisherman. The best I saw was 10 crappie and 8 perch of three fisherman who had potty mouths. Too bad. Most people did not catch much. I hit my crappie spots with no takers. Crappie were about 45 ft down with tight mouths. People said a few days ago it was hot. Just my luck, not today. Did talk with two DNR officials. They were walking around gathering info on the tiger muskie disease and the idea of planting sterile pike instead of tiger muskie. I told them I didn’t care since crappie is the best fish. It was nice to see them gathering peoples opinions. Ice was good with a few slushy spots in the Narrows. Most everyone was fishing on the north side all the way down. I used waxies, spikes, mealies, with a variety of lures. Just not the day. I’ll probably hit Newton sometime this week. LC

Thanks for the info. I was thinking with this high pressure settling in they may get going again. May just have to hit Mantua again.

We hit Pine today. NADA! NANIMO! We fished over by the dam. Most people I talked to had little or no bites. We packed up and went to Mantua. The same there. You must’ve been fishing on the eastern side where the river comes in. We should’ve walked the ways but stayed closer to the boat ramp. Better luck for us next time. Glad you did good.

*Fished several places in Mantua today. Measured ice at 9" max. Most of that was white, pourus stuff. Seemed sufficient to hold up the 4 wheelers and snowmobiles.

Most I talked to were having a slow day- a few trout but that was about it.
