Checked Mantua this morning. Several areas of open water, however ice is forming. Where ice was present most spots measured 3/4" - 1" with soft edges that I was only able to take a few steps on without going through
It will build this week and I’m going Friday. Anyone want to meet me there and see if we can find some fish? I forgot how much I like to ice fish. Thanks for checking that out, now we know it’s very possible for next week. Thanks J
I am totally ready for ice fishing on Mantua, but I dont think there will be any safe ice. As previously mentioned, ice starting to form, but mostly open water still.

The weather report isn’t as good as when I made the prediction, but I still think Tuesday morning will stick a solid cap and I think 3 days of below freezing should put 3” on there by Friday. Little thin but if careful it will hold. This won’t be time for big groups or much gear it’s early ice go light season. Not a good idea to take the kids yet, this is alpha screw loose season. But within a week it could be full on bring the crew. Hope I’m not wrong, but I have been before. Later J

We drove past there this afternoon heading back from up north. There’s still a good amount of open water. But I hope you are right. I’m ready to not drive so far.

Road is sure snowy here this morning and it’s too dark to see for sure but I didn’t see any lights reflecting off the water so maybe it’s covered this morning. I’ll check tonight on the way home from work. Tomorrow will be the make or break morning for my prediction. If it’s not capped tomorrow then I’m wrong. Were you fishing up north or just there? Was nice on Henry’s to have 8” of ice so I felt pretty safe. Although we did get some bad slush showing up from all the hole overflow. But it happens. Yea we went up to Weston yesterday. Should have checked out Daniels. Couldn’t get away long enough to go to Henry’s. The north side of the lake looked capped the middle and that south east side were for sure open. Can’t wait to get this season kicked off. But this is the first time I have ever been ice fishing twice before mid December so I can’t complain.
I agree, it’s been a better than average start for me as well.. Guess I’m up to six days on the ice so far, so I’ve been over spoiled for sure… Most years it’s mid December when I start at Mantua, hope that one is even a week early this year… Who knows maybe we’ll even get ice at Bear Lake this year… That would be the best ever… Well congrats on the ice time and thanks for checking things around… hope we can meet up again soon on the ice somewhere, that other trip was a lot of fun… Later J
I just moved up to Logan a couple months ago and I’m ready for some ice fishing! I have to work this weekend but hopefully next weekend I can make it out. I would love to go with someone as I don’t know the lake. I hear Hyrum can be a good spot for perch as well.
Hey Devin, we’ll keep in touch, love to have ya join us.. don’t know if Hyrum will have ice by then or not, but we think Mantua will be fishing by then and it can be fun at times… Hyrum will be fun when it ices up, but the fish are small this year, so likely be catching fish, but not too excited about the size… Perch may be okay there this year… Get a hold of me a day or two before and we’ll make some plans of where to meet up… Later J
Well, we got the 5 degree temps last night that should really set the ice at Mantua, I think it will be good to go come Thursday or Friday… But everyone be careful, it will still be on the thin side… Later J
Checked it out this morning, it is completely capped. I went out a few feet from the boat ramp and poked a hole with my spud. Solid 2" of hard water. HOPING to be pulling perch outta there by Thursday [fishon]

Checked out the ice situation today and it looks capped. Walked next to the shore…2" in with only 1" in a lot of areas, didn’t venture out far at all…so be super careful out there. I’m giving it another week or so to make sure it’s safe.
Yup didn’t see any crazies out there yet today so couple days and the early birds will be out after them. Pretty sure we’ll have 3” on Friday so I may try a shallow attempt. If I can go that day anyway. It’s almost here. Later Jeff
