I live in Brigham so I drove past mantua yesterday at about 4:30. There was about a half an inch of ice over the whole lake. I am guessing by next saterday(15th) it will be ready to go. I will check on it more at the beginning of next week.
Thanks for the report. ![]()
Welcome to BFT Utah and thanks for the info. WH2
Welcome to BFT Timberhall. Thanks for checking on mantua; Keep the post’s coming.
Nice job on the report. Keep them coming.
This may sound strange, but I hope this warm weather today melts the ice before the predicted snow, then it gets cold. That way Mantua can set a solid base of ice, not that ice, snow, slush mix that is prone plague the lake.
I agree. But I’ll take what I can get!
Dale, you better meet Geoffrey, Pat, and I in about a week! : ) (assuming it’s frozen by then)
Give me 4" of good ice and I’ll be there!
[;)]won’t be long now…
the forecast is for Zero degrees tonight up here in cache valley- Mantua will be capped with good ice.
Ice fishing this saturday anyone?

Timberhall,
Have you had a chance to check on the Mantua Ice yet this week? I am really dying to get out there!
Thanks for keeping us all updated.

Welcome to the site Dwayneb, I’m sure plenty of the members of BFT will be fishing Mantua as soon as it freezes. Just read the reports and try to meet up with some of the guys as they are making plans, you can also use the PM feature to make plans with someone. Thanks for serving our country. WH2
I just went and checked on manua. there seems to be about 3" of ice. It was fairly soft because I could gauge about 2" deep by throwing rocks into it. I did see some one on it on the south end. The north end still has a little open water. The forcast is for mid 20s for the rest of the week. I am expecting that it will be ready by the end of the week or the beginning of next week
thanks for checking that out,Nathan!
I’m betting the next few overnight lows near “Zero” will help ‘solidify’ things up.
I work on base and there are tons of us ice holes up here, i am sure you wont have a problem finding someone to fish with, i beleive a bunch of us are headed to scofield this weekend? Good luck and let us know howyou do…
Holleywood
anyway i can get your contact number so if i plan to go i will follow you down…
thks
Derek, I think I’m up 4 'dat, dude!!! Let’s keep an eye on it. If it has 3 inches of safe ice then I’m totally game for nailing the 'gils through the ice this saturday. I’ve never fished it that early before and I worry about those so called warm springs. I"ve always had the best luck through the ice over by the creek channel/inlet, but when the ice is this thin, I don’t know how close to it I’d want to be right now. I’ve never caught much off the boat ramp during ice season. Maybe this early when they aren’t spooked as much yet (since that’s where the masses fish it usually) we can have success there if we find a good hole between the moss beds.
Keep me updated and I will make a decision Thurs or Fri. Would love to fish with you again this weekend, but if the ice isn’t thick enough yet (3 inches for me) then I’m going to Mud Creek (Strawberry). Fish on…
Geoff, if you want me to fish with you again, you’re gonna have to change yer avatar! [;)]
