So our original plans for St. patty’s day was a dinner party, but it turned into a girl’s night for my wife and her friends. So as to avoid any testosterone in the house my wife suggested that I go fishing.
Don’t mind if I do!!!
I got my pontoon on to soft water for the first time, talk about an upgrade from a float tube. It was great. The only problem was that I was back on UTAH LAKE. I didn’t get onto the water until 5:45 p.m. because I had to set up my toon and rods. I launched from LB with the hope of smacking the walleye by channeling Tube Dude and using all that wonderful info he posted.
So I turn the corner toward the L and it looked like the Navy had invaded Lincoln Beach. There were boats and toons stacked together over what I am sure was a nice walleye holding rocky shelf.
I decided not to impose, but to make the best of the situation and fish. I was fishing slow, like I thought I should, But I would get hung up basically every cast. In an effort to keep my jig swimming I sped up my pace quite a bit, and wouldn’t you know it, I CAUGHT A FISH!! At first I didn’t know what to do because of the shock I was in, but I was able to land a decent little white bass ![]()
.
That is a huge victory for me on UL! By this time the light was going quick and I made my way back to shore. As i was going back I continued to fish the jig quickly, maybe about six inches under the surface of the water.
KABOOM!!! Another fish smakes the jig the same way a large mouth does a topwater plug. I caught three more that way on my way in. It was fantastic. There is nothing more thrilling than a topwater bite, and boy did those white bass deliever. It was a lot of fun, which is something I didn’t think I would ever day about UL[;)]. I will post pics later.
