Hit the little bear saturday with my little girl for about and hour and she ended up landing a couple nice bows and a beautiful brown. She lost a couple browns that were pushing 20 right at the bank but hey she did great for being 5. She literally had a bite on every cast, it was awesome and I couldn’t be prouder. After she got bored from catching fish, her mother ended up picking her up leaving me to venture up stream. I ended up with about 30 plus fish for the afternoon and to my surprise, mostly bows. I lost one brown that I honestly can’t say how big but I know that he snapped my 10 lb test like a twig after burning off 20 feet of line.
Headed out the next day with Ninja and the same stellar fishing continued. Landed more browns than the day before but the bows were still out in force. If you can get to the LB I would recommend it before the water comes back up, the fish are biting and are really healthy for this time of year. Just remember if you go to save some for seed!
I had no idea there were so many bows in there. I guess they came down from the reservoir. Those are some beautiful fish, I will definitely be hunting for some access if we get a break in the weather.
I grew up and live just 1/4 mile from it so ya I fish it a lot. It’s a cool place and a lot of people don’t even realize what’s in there. I think just about any river around here is going to be hot right now though. Clear water, decent flows and a mild winter have got the trout looking good and feeding heavily as well.
[;)]Not much of a trout fan anymore but those are some nice looking browns, guess it beats getting skunked on Onieda for perch-right. Great job and it looks like the little gal had lots of fun with dad, thats the best part.
Wow - nice report.
I was expecting to see the waves crashing in the background! Those are some hogs there. The fish look pretty cool too! You’re gonna start giving Keystone a run for his money on the cute kid posts! You sure they’re yours? Don’t look a thing like ya (haha).[:p]
Do you usually use lighter or heavier? I tend to run 6-10 mostly. A few trolling rods with heavier. But I’ve broke off cats on 10lb, mostly cuz I’m a spaz! Or the fish dove around a log/snag!
You got me going so I had to try it - had a little window on the way home, so stopped along the Logan - man is it floooodeeed out by the golfcourse.
Saw some shadows under a bridge, and pitched a few. There were some biiiig fish lurking around - but I couldn’t get a bite. Pitched a panther downstream and bam - got a nice little brown - no camera, great spots.
And those big fish - still wouldn’t play. Then I realized THOSE big browns were carp - I bumped into one enough to see a scale flake… but at least I knew the trout were out there too.
Those are some nice fish. Pics of the daughter are awesome! My daughter doesn’t come out with me too much, but she has a lot of fun when she does. And I got the sarcasm and laughed out loud. Funny stuff. I have had some 10 lb test break in the same way. It happens sometimes, but you know that.
I have never fished the Little Bear. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Someday I might make it down there somewhere and try it out.
Oh yeah! There was some kind of hatch going on too, little tiny white flies. I’m not sure what they were but the fish were taking top all day on saturday.
That does it, the next time it’s not disgusting out, like today, I’m skipping class and heading down there with my 3/4wt. I think I may also bring along a spinning rod with something a little more robust that I’ve been wanting to throw for big browns lately.
