Just curious if anyone has been around Lincoln Beach to see how much ice is off around the edges, or around the jeddies.
Had a drive by report from last weekend…still socked in. Attached are pics from last year that were taken the end of the first week in March.
Hint. It has been a heavier winter this year.
I look for some opening within a week to 10 days…or else I am gonna jump off my float tube.
I have to go to salt lake tomorow on the way back if remember i will stop by and take pics.Maybe the warm spring areas might be opening up.
I fished out in front of the first spring on Saturday. No open water to speak of, the ice was atleast 10 inches. I think it might take until around the end of next week to see some good open water near the shore. I also fished between the dikes and there was about 2 feet of open water right off the end of the boat ramp, and just a few inches of water starting to form along the south side of the north dike. However, the ice in there was about 12 inches so it will still be a little while there too. My son and I caught 28 bluegill and crappie between the two spots.
I also drove over to the Provo state park today on my lunch break. There is a very large area of open water where the provo river comes in, and a pretty good spot in the corner between the north and west dikes, enough to cast a line into. Inside the marina the ice was just starting to come away from the shore.
Thanks for the update i guess i will make that trip out there next week and see howthe ice is holding up. [;)]

From the pics last year, I was wondering if you fished that day, and if you did, how did you do?
We did find a small open area where the warm springs flow in south of the dikes. LINK TO REPORT on March 9th. No cats then. Only carp and white bass.
A few days later LINK TO REPORT the lake was ice free and the kitties were ready to rumble. Caught them steadily after that.

I have been flying over utah lake every day so far, on the genola edge the ice is going bad fast, there is open water on the edges, and big cracks that have let water on the ice. If i fly over LB this week i will pay more attention and let you know

I was able to fly over the lake again today, the ice is starting to open up on the edges just south of the marina, it is also open around the north spring. The edges dont look like they are to bad, but it wouldnt hurt to take a plank or fish early in the morning
You could always just strap on your float tube, drill a couple holes in the ice and pretend you are paddling around
My, what a novel idea. Ranks right up there with somebody else’s suggestion that I get a big ice saw and open up a hole big enough to float my tube. Too bad that is illegal…no more than 12" hole, etc.
Nay…I shall be patient and await the forces of nature to complete their natural cycle…if my meds hold up until then.
you know the good thing about the ice being on so long is, that the fish that are going to spawn hold their eggs longer so they get fully developed at a nice slow rate. unlike other years when ice off is early then the development cycle has to rush thru and more fry die off and or are weak. so, the longer the ice stays on the healthier the fish will be. but, I think it’s about time. later chuck

The walleyes should be fat and healthy this year. LOTS of small white bass the last couple of years. Also, I think the harvest has been way down. Higher water levels and the NO TRESPASSING restrictions around most of the Lincoln Beach wade-fishing spots have really cut back on the number of non-boater anglers in that area.
That has increased the number of HAPPY HARVESTERS that work some of the other spots though.
I plan to target the 'eyes a lot more this year. Watch out Wallies.

Here is a PDF of a Google Map of Lincoln Point…with numbered indicators of some of the main features.
Note: The thermal springs used to flow more heavily and be much warmer…some almost hot to the touch. In recent years, with greater agricultural pumping of groundwater and drought years the water tables have dropped and the amount of water coming in from the springs has slowed to a dribble. Also, the water is not as warm. I have dropped temperature probes into the middle of some of the springs, in high water periods, and the water is not noticeably warmer than the water in the main lake. Not nearly the fish magnets they used to be.
I don’t know how relevant it is, but the springs on the north end of the lake were much more active this year than the last couple. Saratoga Springs private marina didn’t even freeze down the channel to the lake. Last year there was only about a 20ft circle where it didn’t freeze. All along the north end the flows were up and the temps were up. I hope the same is true at Lincoln.
