Fishluvr, Rvanman2000, his lovely wife, and I hit Lincoln Beach at 0300 this morning. As we arrived a group was leaving telling us the action was hot, but the bite died down at 0200. We tossed in out lines and waited, waited, waited some more, and kept waiting.
**I got a really good run on one of my poles just before sun up but being used to circle hooks I didn’t get a quick enough hook set and lost the fish. **
Rvanman2000’s wife then started into the white bass. The three of us couldn’t buy a bite but she managed to keep them white bass busy with her bait.
I got three more pick-ups but nothing I could hook and reel in. After dawn I started to see carp in litte schools off shore. I loaded on my trusty black curly tail grub and went to work. I managed to snag 3 carp but lost all three after a brief fight. The fourth carp I snagged I managed to bring to shore where I strongly encouraged him to swim toward the light.
**On my last carp snagging attempt about 3 feet from shore a pesky game fish (white bass) decided my curly tail grub looked good enough to eat and promptly also got to swim toward the light. **
We got to meet Out4Trout who seems like a really nice guy. Dude sprung a leak in his tube so he pulled up a patch of shore and joined us. Around 10:30-11:00 we called it quits and hit the road. The bite seemed like it was starting to turn back on a little and so I let Out4Trout know where I was starting to get hits. Based on the way my line was getting hits I highly suspect my bait was the target of white bass and was too big for them to do much more than pick up.
I was also amazed at the Zoo that was Lincoln Beach. I think my shore fishing days on Lincoln are over for awhile. Fishluvr and I agreed that Utah Lake is going to be a floater only lake for awhile. I think the fish at Lincoln are getting way too much pressure.
Hey, it was great to meet you guys too. I posted a reply to your other post that talked about carp shooting. I agree, it was almost elbow to elbow fishing off of that dike and the power squadron sucked too.
